Roxy Living It Up Hobo | Casual Fabric Plaid Convertible Handbag

Posted on: Oct 26

It's the season for plaid, and this classic print seems to be popping up everywhere. Like the Nine West Rory Cross-Body Bag, this Roxy Living It Up hobo handbag fits right in with the checkered scarves and coats that have now emerged from peoples' closets.

Although I tend to prefer red and gray plaids to other options, this combination of green, blue, and black is at least a little unexpected. The color could be somewhat versatile in a winter wardrobe blending well with things like other black accessories or blue jeans.

Because of the casual style of the Living It Up handbag, I'm thinking that blue jeans are more in order for this plaid design as opposed to dress pants. This might not be the type of purse you carry to dinner, but it could look very stylish paired with jeans, tall boots, and a snuggly wool pea coat.

This isn't an oversized handbag, but it is a nice medium hobo. The most convenient detail of it, though, is the quick switcheroo you can make from shoulder bag to cross-body by simply changing the double layer handle to a single longer strap. There's no switching out straps or tucking anything inside. It's a clever design feature that women are bound to appreciate.

This Roxy Living It Up hobo is extremely affordable with a price tag of only $36. At that cost, it might even be worth getting one in each color.

More Features of the Living It Up Hobo

  • Measures 16.5 x 9 x 4 inches
  • Convertible strap
  • Zip top closure

Jimmy Choo and Elton John Launch Photographic Competition | Win Designer Shoes and Handbags

Posted on: Oct 16

Following the announcement of Jimmy Choo and Elton John's designer collaboration for AIDS initiative Project PEP, the fashionable pair has launched a photographic competition.

Your entry will need three things: you, your favorite shoe, and the number 72. The number is significant as Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) must be administered within 72 hours of exposure to the HIV virus.

The competition aims to raise awareness of the Project PEP initiative, which will raise funds for the Simelela Rape Center in Cape Town, South Africa. The center looks to administer rape victims with the vital PEP medication and provide medical, counseling, and legal support.

More than 100 lucky snappers will take home products from the Project PEP range, with the grand prize winner scoring seven pairs of shoes and two purses from Jimmy Choo. Many of the winning images will also be displayed at Project PEP's official launch at Selfridges London on October 29.

Mulberry Teams with Apple Computer for Collection of Laptop Bags

Posted on: Oct 10

I don't usually attribute the term "practical" to luxury label Mulberry. However, that's exactly where the brand seems to be heading with its most recent project.

The company, which has churned out It bags like the Mabel and the Bayswater, is changing its strategy a bit by creating a collection of laptop bags. It's a new collaboration between Mulberry and Apple Computer aimed at combining luxury and convenience for both men and women.

Mulberry's Creative Director Emma Hill commented on the partnership:

"Apple products are too beautiful to reside in drab bags! Apple and Mulberry share a legacy of craftsmanship and I'm thrilled that we were asked to be Apple's first luxury collaboration."

The nine-piece collection, which includes bags, laptops sleeves, mini iPhone cross-body bags, will hit Mulberry stores and Apple's European website on November 1. You can purchase them from Mulberry's website beginning December 1. They sound like a great gift idea for the fashion-loving techie in your life.

Aldo Creates Limited-Edition Tote Bags for Aldo Fights Aids Initiative with YouthAIDS

Posted on: Oct 5

Budget-conscious brand Aldo has been working with YouthAIDS for the past several years for an education initiative which aims to educate young people and prevent them from becoming infected with HIV. That close partnership is continuing with a new project.

The initiative, called Aldo Fights Aids, has released a trio of limited edition reusable tote bags for its 2009 campaign. The bags were designed by the Aldo team and "inspired by the notion of unity and the desire to help." The drawings on the totes were inspired by the three chapters of Vivian Ralickas' short story Our Last Adventure: In Memory of Martha. The chapters and the totes are named "Getting Lost," "In the City," and "Jukebox."

These three bags each have a price tag of $10 and are for sale on Aldo's website and in stores. All of the proceeds from the sales will go to YouthAIDS.

"For every tote bag sold, Aldo and YouthAIDS will be able to provide one young person with the information and tools they need to protect themselves from HIV for up to six months," said YouthAIDS Founder Kate Roberts.

Jimmy Choo and ELLE Collaborate for Fashion Week | Get a Project PEP Bag Before They Hit Stores

Posted on: Sep 14

Earlier this summer, we learned about Jimmy Choo's decision to team up with the Sir Elton John AIDS Foundation for a capsule collection of flip-flops and handbags. The collaboration, which will benefit the Project PEP initiative, is still several months away from being in the hands of thoughtful shoppers ... or so we thought.

For the currently happening Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, the fashion experts at ELLE and Jimmy Choo are distributing one of these perfectly punk-rocker totes for one day only. People can head over to the famed Bryant Park this Wednesday, September 16, between the hours of 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to get one of their very own. This handbag from the Project PEP collection will only be distributed while supplies last, however, so get in line early if you're in the area.

For those of us not fortunate enough to be in NYC for the fashion week events, we'll have to wait until November to get our hands on the designs. Don't worry, though: you can head over to Jimmy Choo's website to sign up for their Project PEP waiting list to make sure you don't miss out.

The Jesse B. Collection Bermuda Bag | Cute Frame Handbag with Bridget Reversible Cover

Posted on: Sep 12

This reversible handbag from The Jesse B. Collection gives you two looks in one!

Five white buttons secure the reversible cover to the frame-style bag. One side features this chic red and white houndstooth print. The other is bright red wool, perfect for the cooler weather to come this year!

The removable cover idea is an interesting take on the reversible bag trend. By reversing only the cover, rather than turning the entire bag inside out, the interior can be a functional carrying space. It's just a shame that The Jesse B. Collection didn't exploit that. The satiny white lining is lovely, but bound to show lipstick stains and pen marks before long. There are no pockets either. While a space of this size doesn't really need organizational aids, a cell phone slip would have been handy.

Also impractical are those wooden handles. Again, they're gorgeous, but despite their smooth finish they won’t be comfortable if you're on the go. A shoulder strap may not have had the same mod appeal, but it would have been much more convenient.

This Jesse B. Collection Bermuda bag is unique, making it a real conversation starter. But I see it as more of a novelty than an everyday companion.

Bottletop Recycles Ringpulls for Celebrity Favorite Charity Handbags

Posted on: Sep 7

British organization Bottletop is creating recycled handbags for charity.

The brand's founders, Cameron Saul and Oliver Wayman, turn soda pop ringpulls into edgy eco-friendly purses. The bags are crafted in Salvador, Brazil, helping to generate income for the poverty-stricken South American area. The region's homeless collect ringpulls for the label as a way of making some cash.

"It's nice that they know they can get a bit of money from bringing them to the centre," said Mr. Saul, who pays £3 per kilogram of metal.

Each bag uses about 1000 ringpulls, ensuring the metal tabs don't end up in landfill. They are crafted by a Brazilian women's collective, saving the employees from becoming maids or worse, prostitutes. Money generated from the sale of the bags, which retails between £30 and £70 in British outlets, helps to fund sexual health awareness programs in Third World nations.

The handbags have become a hit with socially-conscious celebs including Peaches Geldof, Annie Lennox, and Natalie Imbruglia. They are available online, or through Fenchurch's  in London's West End or the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Rebecca Minkoff Does Wedding Bags with “I Do” Collection

Posted on: Sep 6

Rebecca Minkoff is applying her contemporary design flair to the bridal industry with the launch of her "I Do" collection. Rebecca obviously believes in the range, as she carried one of these very bags on her own wedding day in June.

The most exciting part is that all bags can be completely customized. Brides can send the designer their choice of lace and satin. This ensures the accessories will coordinate with the bridal party's attire. That makes the prices – between $195 and $215 – seem incredibly reasonable. Especially since, unlike so many other wedding day indulgences, these designer bags could easily be incorporated into your everyday evening essentials.

But there is a catch. Brides must place a special order of at least four pieces. Still, they'd make fantastic bridesmaids gifts for your gal pals if your big day budget can stretch that far. The "I Do" collection will be available from the middle of the month. Visit the Rebecca Minkoff website for ordering details as they come to hand.

British TV Star Fearne Cotton Tells of Mulberry Handbag Obsession

Posted on: Aug 5

Wouldn't it be nice to be a celeb, able to afford not just one purse from your favorite designer, but 15? Her handbag collection may not rival Lily Allen's just yet, but British television presenter Fearne Cotton is well on her way.

Mulberry is her designer of choice, and it seems she just can't get enough!

"Mulberry is my favourite handbag brand and I probably have 15 of them," the self-confessed shopalic admitted to Heat magazine. "I love their Bayswater bag - I've just ordered a new leopard-print one - and then a couple of those little Mables, some of their big carriers and some luggage."

But don't think the TV host is simply frivolous in her purchases. She assures us that they're simply investments!

"I use my expensive bags everyday and they still look brand new. I think they are such a nice thing to pass down."

Not that she's admitted letting any go just yet!

South African Eco-Friendly Tag Bags Recycle License Plates and Tyres | Handbags Help Environment and Society

Posted on: Jul 26

Here at BagBunch, we're always on the lookout for handbags that are more than mere arm candy. While there’s a place for frothy pieces of high fashion, it's encouraging to find purses that give back to our environment and the global community. Tag Bag does both with its recycled accessories range.

The brand takes recycled license plates and inner tire tubes to create handbags of style and substance. The purses are handcrafted by the people of Kayamandi in South Africa, a township striken by poverty and AIDS. Tag Bag head Meeshee Scherrei visited the village in 2006, and was touched by its plight. She hopes that the success of her handbag line can help turn the village’s fortunes around.

There are currently eight different Tag Bags to choose from, including the everyday Pumla Carrybag, the mini messenger style Confidence Small Sling, and the oh-so-cute Noma Lunch Box. The bags are all priced under $100, so it doesn't cost much to make a difference.
