The combination of colors here is really alluring. I love the way the fresh mint green canvas pops against the beige trim. Often London Fog's leatherettes appear a bit tacky, but by replicating patent the natural gloss of the synthetic becomes an asset. The tassels mirror the cute cutout detail running down the center stripe, but I think they look a little messy. If you also prefer a cleaner look you'll be happy to see they're easily removed.

The Campbell is really well designed, with a deep open pocket on the back and several more organizational pockets inside. The trio of pouch pockets is perfect for gadget loving girls, while the long zippered pocket is a handy place for stashing valuables. The rolled handles will probably slide off our shoulders, but on such an affordable bag this feels like nitpicking.

By choosing canvas and synthetic over more luxurious materials London Fog's kept the Campbell priced underneath the magic $100 mark. The summery finish doesn't feel like too much of a compromise though with warmer weather ahead.

In regular mode the Ava is a very tall, spacious tote. Its buttery grained leather has a weathered appearance which in this indigo hue is reminiscent of denim. I can just imagine how good it would look alongside my favorite pair of jeans! Its flat handles may become difficult to use if the Ava's full, but there's also a detachable strap to help us out.

Personally I think the Ava's a bit too tall to manage as a tote. Your whole arm would disappear as you dig around for items that have found their way to the corners. If you agree, you'll probably spend more time with the Ava in messenger bag mode. Just fold it over in the center and you're ready to go!

While I'm not keen on the Ava working as a tote, I appreciate the design's versatility. The extra inches the tote mode affords are ideal for weekend getaways and those days you just need to carry a bit more.

And I certainly can't fault the price. $548 would be reasonable for any leather accessory of this size, but the Ava's convertible nature makes it seem like a real bargain!

Urban Junket keeps costs down by adding a TSA safe rechargeable battery pack rather than the solar panels its competitors employ. The pack automatically senses your need for power, so you needn't spend time fiddling with buttons or switches. It'll last for ten days before you need to recharge it at a standard US electrical outlet or computer with USB ports.

Urban Junket also chooses a vegan material over leather. It's a more sustainable choice than typical synthetics though. The leather like skin is actually crafted from reclaimed plastic bottles.

Urban Junket's created three different battery powered bags: the cross-body Jen, the hobo styles Karen, and the tote-like JB. Each one is available in a range of bright fashion colors. The bags sadly won't power up laptops, but you can use them to charge smart phones, MP3 players, e-readers, and portable gaming or Bluetooth devices.

Urban Junket's battery powered bags start at $198 for the Jen and top $240 for the JB. They're available to pre-order from the Urban Junket website ahead of their release mid-June.

In stripping away such distinctive elements, it seems Juicy Couture's lost its personality. The Mimi is a very simple tote, with a traditional boxy shape and no superfluous frills. At best it's clean and minimalist. At worst it's boring. It's always helpful to have a bag like this in the closet when you're wearing a complicated ensemble that doesn't want upstaging, but it'll never inspire handbag envy.

Don't dismiss the Mimi out of hand though, because it really is a well put together tote. Its spacious interior has all the pockets we'd expect, while the outside has a handy slip pocket and detachable key chain. I also appreciate the turn-lock closure, which makes the Mimi appear refined while offering vital security.

Some more inspiring color options could have made the Mimi much more. A simple tote like this really lends itself to saturated jewel hues. While the pale almond color has a splash of metallic the effect is so subtle it's easily missed.

I know I wished for Juicy Couture to show more restraint a few years ago, but this tote makes me long for the label of old!

The Catherine has the same chic minimalist style the queen-in-waiting is famous for. Its angled tote shape is classic, but the rich moss-colored patent leather makes it feel very fresh. I'm not sure the tan vegetable leather straps are the best complement for the glossy skin, but at least they're colored without nasty chemicals!

The Catherine's interior doesn’t exceed our expectations, but the pair of media pockets and large zippered one do the job. I wish Jessica Jensen had opted for a secure zippered top rather than the magnetic closure though. This tote is so wide that small items could easily slip out of either side once it's set down.

These elements are niggles rather than real functional flaws though. Personally I can live with them at this price point. $398 isn't a lot to spend such a classic tote made from such high quality materials.

Can you imagine it making its way into Catherine Middleton's wardrobe?

The flower accent really is La Fleur's crowning glory. It's been beautifully crafted from pieces of authentic leather, sewn together to create a head-turning bloom. But that's not all this bag has going for it. The tote's gentle curves work with the bold ring handles to bring a retro feel to the classic tote shape. I can't imagine those handles will be easy to use, especially when the bag's full, but don't they look smart?

While the exterior is striking, I can't help being disappointed by this tote's interior. It's very simple, almost as if Jesselli Couture forgot about it. There's no closure and no pockets at all. It's also lined in black fabric, which makes it difficult to find anything we've put inside. It truly is a black hole! A bag this size really needs more organizational aids if it's to become an everyday accessory.

Its minimalist interior is disappointing, but at $349 this Jesselli Couture still represents great value. That's not a lot to spend on a real leather tote with such an elaborate design.

Top-handled purses like this were trailblazers in the fifties and sixties, but they're enjoying a revival of late. Women love the elegance of the style, which looks feminine without being too fussy. The tan color that Jason Wu calls luggage isn't very enviable, but it's an evergreen choice perfect for any occasion or outfit.

While the Toni takes its cues from classic designs, it's got a little of its own personality. I particularly like the belted top, which adds interest without ruining the tote's smooth lines. I also really like the way the retro tubular handles are complemented by a much more practical cross-body strap.

Jason Wu gives us those little extras that let us know we're carrying a luxury bag. Metal feet help protect the calfskin base, and more of the skin trims the internal pockets. But we expect that attention to detail at this price point. At $1995 the Toni certainly isn't cheap, but it represents an investment in your fashion future.

The reusable totes are handcrafted by empowered women working at an artisan co-operative in Bangladesh. Those handles could stand to be longer, as they're likely to be awkward to manage once the market bag is full. Using reclaimed leather, rather than new skins, would have also made the bags more planet-friendly. However the antique nickel rivets which finish the bag are a great sustainable touch.

Collaborating with Steven Alan was an easy decision for Apolis, who has long admired the retailer's timeless approach to fashion. While Apolis' market bag isn't a head turner, its simple styling and proud "Tribeca, New York, USA" lettering seamlessly slot into the Steven Alan collection.

The Apolis for Steven Alan Market bag is available for $68 exclusively from Steven Alan's TriBeCa boutique and online store. It's a little more than I'd expect to pay for such a basic tote, but knowing the money helps people less fortunate makes splurging a little easier.

Thursday Friday set its sights on Proenza Schouler for its latest designer handbag inspired tote collection. The controversial label's new Fest bags are screen-printed with the image of Proenza Schouler's iconic PS1 satchel.

Thursday Friday caught the public's attention when it famously created totes bearing the image of the Hermes Birkin bag. Hermes sued, but undeterred Thursday Friday released further totes bearing the images of Chanel's 2.55 Flap Bags, Balenciaga's Moto Bags, and more.

The last few releases haven't seen the same lawsuits, so who could blame Thursday Friday for continuing to ride the wave? Their designer inspired totes have been very popular amongst cash-strapped fashionistas with an eye for luxury goods. After all, the new Fest totes start at $35, far less than the minimum $850 Proenza Schouler charges for its PS1!

The Fest bags are available with PS1 images in a variety of sizes in red, honey, orange, black, fuchsia, and the bright caicos blue pictured. Previous Thursday Friday designer inspired totes have sold out, so I don't expect stocks of the Fest bag to last too long. They're available now from the Thursday Friday website.
