The colorblocked finish gives this simple shopping bag some real punch. The girly girl in me can't help but be drawn to this navy and pink version but there's also a gentle lemon yellow and seaglass green alternative, as well as a neutral black and dune one, on offer. The range of color combos might be small but they provide such distinct looks that there should be one to please everybody.

The Jen's fun colorblocked exterior is matched with a surprisingly well designed interior. This shopper appears so simple that I really wasn't expecting much. But the spacious main compartment is made much smarter with a pair of zippered pockets and a small cell phone pouch. A zip running across the top keeps all your purchases and everyday essentials safe and secure.

At just $30 the Jen is affordable, but there's an element of getting what you pay for. Its canvas is quite flimsy, so the shopper doesn't really hold its shape or sit up as more high-end bags do. A heftier canvas would have made all the difference.

To the unknowing eye this shopper looks like the bags we find at our local grocery store. It's not made from flimsy plastic though. Jil Sander instead has opted for polypropylene, a high tech material so tough it's used in ropes, lifesaving armor, and protective gear for the NFL.

This transparent shopper leaves little to the imagination. While it's not quite clear, its opaque finish shows the outline of the items we're carrying.

The transparent material is matched with a navy blue leather base and a matching embossed leather tag. This tag is the only obvious marker that we're indulging in a designer original, rather than a stock standard supermarket bag.

Without any interior pockets or even a closure, I'm left feeling very underwhelmed. There's minimalism and there's not trying hard enough, and it feels like Jil Sander's crossed that all important line.

I appreciate the novelty aspect of this shopper, but not its price tag. $289 seems far too much to pay for a glorified plastic bag, don't you think?

Lacoste has extended its polo shirt inspired L.12.12 Shopper Project line for fall/winter 2012.

The collection's accessories combine petite pique and leather in colors inspired by Lacoste's iconic polos. As its name suggests, shoppers are the collection's centrepieces. There are seven in all with sizes ranging from small to extra large. For the new season, Lacoste has built on the shopper collection and added new shapes including a flat vertical tote bag, a large shoulder bag, and a clutch.

Lacoste International Travel Retail Director Catherine Bonelli says the L.12.12. bags are ideal for travelers, who should appreciate the washable fabrics and affordable prices.

"It takes the Lacoste brand to a new wider consumer audience, and is fabulous for travellers looking for something for themselves or a gift that is minimalistic and very chic," she explained.

Lacoste's new L.12.12 Shopper Project collection will make its debut next month at the Tax Free World Association Asia Pacific Show in Singapore. It will then be rolled out into stores, including its new flagship outlets in Hamburg, Montreal, London, Tokyo, and the soon to be opened Shanghai boutique.

Lacoste isn't a label I usually associate with accessories, but the bold red color and minimalist design of the L.12.12 Shopper pictured has caught my eye. Has it encouraged you to think differently about Lacoste?

Here DKNY's done away with the tired logo pattern and opted for classic ivory pebbled leather. The neutral hue provides the perfect backdrop for the vibrantly colored DKNY scarf. Its mottled red, blue, and black colors contrast delightfully with the pale skin. Personally I think the purse needs the scarf to elevate it above the pack. However if you're leaving the bag behind, why not remove the scarf and wear it around your neck for a pop of color?

This shopper is amply sized for holding everyday essentials with a little space to spare. It's got all the pockets we'd hope for, rolled handles long enough for slinging over your shoulder, and metal feet to protect the pale leather base. The lack of closure is the only real oversight, but it's a significant one. While the platform base should ensure your items stay in place once you set the shopper down, security is still compromised.

The lack of closure is disappointing, but it's the only glaring omission on this affordably priced $325 shopper.

MCM has released two new versions of its iconic shopper bag as part of its new Shopper Project.

The program will see several simply shaped shoppers released over the coming fashion seasons. Each one will have its own personality, but they'll be united by the recognizable beribboned MCM logo.

The spring/summer 2012 line features the Heritage and Reversible Shoppers. The Heritage is an instant classic, with its colorblocked finish in conservative white, cognac, and beige hues. Its reserved look is perfect for the office, although I'm sure classic beauties will also take it on leisure outings as well.

The Reversible alternative is a more modern creature with trend-conscious colors and patterns. When you tire of one print you can simply turn the bag inside out to enjoy another. The lime green, blue, and orange hues are definitely not for the faint hearted! Each one comes with a small detachable pouch, which can be used as an internal coin purse or independent clutch.

While the new shoppers will be released to coincide with the label's seasonal collections, they're really ideal for use all year round. MCM describes the clean designs as perfect for "on-the-go nomads who value class, style, and quality."

Look out for new styles and colors as part of MCM's Shopper Project throughout the year.

Its rainbow tiles take colorblocking back to its sixties roots. With the bold black lines between each square, the Swapp appears like a Mondrian artwork rather than a mere carry bag. All those colors probably won't be easy to incorporate into a busy wardrobe, but if you favour neutrals this shopper could offer the pop you're looking for.

While it appears like a work of retro art it does its job too, with a choice of carry straps and well organized interior. Open gadget pouches are complemented by a spacious zippered pocket. All are reinforced with leather for durability. The dark lining makes it a bit difficult to find just what you’re looking for, but at least it's thick enough to withstand regular use. Modern girls may crave a bit more space than Aldo provides, but the Swapp should hold all your essentials if you pack them carefully.

Aldo rarely uses real leather, but it splashes out on the good stuff here. Happily that upgrade doesn't affect the bottom line too much. At $89.53 this shopper is a steal in anyone's language.

Hunter Boots are more famous for wellington rain boots than handbags, so it's not surprising that this shopper is quite simple. But what it lacks in fashion forward flair it makes up for in practicality. It's crafted from the same rubber we see in the boots, so it's just as resistant to water. But that's not the fabric's only perks. It's also very tough, and it couldn't be simpler to clean.

It's not a perfect tote though. The lack of closure is the most obvious omission. After all, while water won't penetrate the exterior it can easily come in through the top. A zip would have made this shopper truly rain worthy. There is one zippered pocket inside, as well as a few open pouches, but I expect items to spill once you sit this shopper down.

The handles could also stand to be a bit longer. You could squeeze them over your shoulder, but the fit will be very snug. A few extra inches would have made all the difference.

Hunter Boots is a new name to the handbag arena, so we expect a few teething problems. Hopefully in time they'll iron out those wrinkles and we'll see a bag with fewer flaws.

Until then $195 isn't a lot to spend on such a high quality shopper.

I've always been partial to well done patchwork, and this shopping tote offers that. Proenza Schouler's sewn together colored swatches of high quality leather to create an abstract geometric pattern. I love the way the muted tan, green, blue and white hues work together, and the way they complement the darker chocolate straps and accents. The zigzag stitching wasn't the most sophisticated choice, but it does give this shopper a quirky homespun charm. Perhaps we shouldn't expect a patchwork purse to be too posh, even if it does bear the Proenza Schouler name!

This patchwork tote is spacious, with long leather handles that are easy to grab as you run out the door. Its single interior pocket has a big job to do though. The main compartment is really too large for just one pocket, and without any closure this is the only secure space we have. And goodness knows anyone who can afford to spend more than a thousand on a tote probably has some precious cargo to carry.

It might be tempted if it had a closure at the least, but without it I can think of several better ways to spend $1150, can't you?

Stella McCartney's latest vegan tote isn't just good for the planet; it's also good for its people.

Stella McCartney's new printed python shopper was created as part of Ethical Fashion Africa, a unique initiative spearheaded by the United Nations. Workers in Nairobi, Kenya hand crafted the tote from cotton canvas taken from old tents. A percentage of profits from the handbag's sales are then returned to the Kenyan community that created it. It's disappointing that McCartney doesn't disclose exactly how much benefits the African people though. I think consumers really deserve to know where their money is going, don't you?

It's hard to believe that such an exotic looking purse began its life as a tent in an African village. Strangely enough, it actually appears more luxurious than the vegan leathers Stella McCartney usually plays with. Perhaps she should take some design tips from those African artisans!

Stella McCartney's new Printed Python Shopper Bag is available for $330 from Stella McCartney outlets, including her online store. That's more than I'd usually spend on a canvas tote bag, but Stella McCartney's handbags are never cheap. At least this one helps raise money for a good cause, rather than simply lining her already deep pockets!

The Venezuelan designer said she released her more affordable CH Carolina Herrera diffusion line in Abu Dhabi to introduce Saudi women to her products. She's currently studying the fashion in market in the Middle East and plans to open a signature Carolina Herrera flagship in the region if there's a favorable reaction to her CH Carolina Herrera store.
