I'm not sure it's quite as classy as its name suggests, but the combination of tan and chocolate brown has a charming sense of nostalgia. It's very 70s, but with that decade enjoying a fashion renaissance it's also surprisingly on trend. The white piping helps the earthy tones really pop.

Tignanello's leather is thin and a bit too shiny to really impress, but it's not a bad material for the money. At $159 this satchel is more affordable than most leather bags on the market, and it should survive longer than the synthetics we see at this price.

The functional design also helps to win us over. It's as large as we would want a day bag to be, with enough pockets to make the space manageable. And if you're craving more room remember the zippered pocket on the back.

The rolled handles suit the bag's retro vibe, but they're a shade too short for easy carrying once the bag is full. Thankfully Tianni's also added a cross-body strap to help us out. The satchel doesn't look as authentic when this is applied, but we won't mind too much when we're on the go.

She doesn't do things by halves here. This simply shaped satchel is covered in hundreds of large and small brass studs. I really like the way the accents pop against the tan lambskin, but I'm still feeling a bit underwhelmed. The various sizes of studs are interesting, but their enthusiastic application seems lazy. Perhaps Rykiel thinks we'll be so dazzled by the studs we won't notice the Domino’s design is only half baked.

Its interior is serviceable but similarly uninspiring. Its cotton lining is nice enough, and its trio of pockets just what we'd expect to find. It'll do the job, but you'll hardly feel as pampered as you should when you're spending $1185.

Sonia Rykiel had a great base here. The Domino's soft lambskin is utterly gorgeous, so it really deserves to be the focus. Instead Rykiel's opted to follow fashion trends, and those that are bound to be on the way out, rather than creating something timeless. Despite its promise, the Domino will disappoint all but the biggest studs fan.

In the tradition of its Alexa Bag comes Mulberry's Travel Bag range, the latest addition to its accessories line.

Some media outlets have dubbed the newest design the Alexa's "love child," and it's not hard to see why. Its satchel shape, braided leather handle, and double-buckle fastening are all familiar. However the metal tipped corners and chic metal nameplate evoke vintage steamer trunks from the golden age of travel.

The design is available as a large Travel Day Bag for everyday use and a smaller Travel Camera Bag. Each one is available in a range of finishes. The most affordable Day Bag will set you back £995, or roughly $1575 US, while the most expensive tops £2250, or around $3565. If that's a bit rich for your blood consider the Travel Camera Bag which is between £795 and £895, the equivalent of $1260 to $1418 US.

It's not even on retail shelves yet but it's already garnered a few celebrity fans. Hayley Atwell, Juno Temple, and Blake Lively have all been spotted toting the Travel Day Bag. The rest of us will have to wait until February 15 to own one.

At its core this is a very traditional satchel, but its tough attitude makes it much more contemporary. I'm not usually a fan of metallic hues on large handbags, but the weathered finish on the gunmetal synthetic helps mellow the hue. The modern shade is also a lovely complement to the gleaming metal hardware which circles the base and services the straps.

With so many designers downsizing their bags, it's interesting to see Rampage bucking the trend. Anyone who enjoys stepping out with their kitchen sink will appreciate the extra inches, but they also make the bag more difficult to manage. The short strap will work if you're travelling lightly, but it'll be useless once there's any weight underneath it. Thankfully Rampage has also added an extra cross-body strap to help us out. This attachment is also completely adjustable for just the right fit.

By choosing synthetic rather than real leather, Rampage has kept the Caden affordably priced at $118. I wouldn't call it a bargain, but we are getting a lot of bag for our dollar.

What I like most about the Avenue is that it doesn't really look like a gym bag. Its fabric body isn't very sophisticated, but the petite dimensions help it seem a bit more stylish. I also love the bold purple hue and the subtle stitched signature print. If you're going to cover a bag in a logo print, this is the way it should be done.

This small satchel isn't made for exercise fanatics, but it should have enough space for casual gym bunnies. Its dainty interior can handle a pair of trainers and a change of clothes, although a thick gym towel and some toiletries is probably pushing it. I also appreciate the array of interior pockets which make staying organized that much easier.

The long strap is the final finishing flourish for me. It's completely adjustable, so we can wear it short as a shoulder bag or extend it and sling the Avenue across our body. That's probably the easiest way to carry the satchel, particularly if it's full, but I always appreciate a few choices.

The Avenue's affordable material sees it priced at just $49. For that money you won't mind too much if that New Year's resolution to get fit doesn't stick!

I've never been a great fan of knitted bags, and this one does little to change my mine. There's something awkward about it, like it was once a sweater that's been squeezed over a handbag frame. I can't fault the quality of the knitted cotton, or its leather handle, but there's something about the chunky knit that seems a little off to me.

I wouldn't say this Marni bag is impractical, but I'm not very impressed by its functional features, or lack thereof. Perhaps the label already put me offside, but the interior seems very lackluster. The drab brown fabric lining doesn't help its cause, but I'm also disappointed by the single open pocket. The compartment is really too large to rely on just one pocket, especially one without any closure.

By choosing an inoffensive shade of brown, Marni's done its best to win over girls who love knits. But I think you'll have to be a real fan of wool to warm to this handbag. It's not a bad example of the design, but I can think of several better ways to spend $789.

The Getaway takes us back to the 50s with its clean lines and structured shape. The sparkly sea foam green vinyl might not be authentically retro, but the playful finish is awfully cute. It's also just one of six color options. For the most part Lux de Ville allows the material to speak for itself, although the kiss-lock clasp and chevron accent give it a bit more flair.

The Getaway is a bit larger than authentic 50s accessories, but that makes it more practical for modern misses. Its midsized dimensions are perfect for holding everything we need without encouraging clutter.

The strap is a little too skinny to be truly practical though. While the Getaway isn't a large satchel, it's likely to pull on your shoulder once it's loaded up. I also don't trust the strength of that vinyl, as the man-made material is rarely as strong as leather.

I can't guarantee that it'll last a long time, but at $72 perhaps it doesn't have to. The Getaway is an affordable satchel with a whole lot of personality.

Don't let the sports part of its moniker confuse you; this isn't the sort of satchel you want to stuff with smelly trainers and sweaty towels. Those odors will cling to the leather, and it's really too small for that kind of application anyway. Instead it's the kind of satchel that should be carried to business luncheons and dinners with that special someone. It's not very flashy, but there's an elegant charm to the design.

The rich cognac colored leather is a traditional choice, but that's part of its appeal. It'll work with almost anything in your wardrobe, no matter what the occasion or season. That safe choice is a good match for the functional interior. Its mid-sized compartment has all the room we need without the bulk that often comes with modern bags. The leather lined interior makes the space feel that much more opulent. The classic configuration of a single zip pocket and two slips doesn't exceed our expectations, but they're certainly met.

And well they should be for the $995 Longchamp charges. That's a lot of money to spend on a handbag, but if you consider it as an investment piece it's a little easier to part with the cash.

While its name will encourage eyeballs its design is ultimately disappointing. Its polyvinyl chloride body is the first misstep. I suppose we can't expect much more for the money, but did it have to look so cheap? The tacky shiny finish is really unbecoming, and those gold accents do little to enhance it. I don’t mind the Middleton's design but its materials let it down.

It is as sensible as Lady Katherine though, with the right amount of space and practical pockets. Its rolled straps might slip off shoulders, but at least they're long enough to sit comfortably where they need to.

The Middleton satchel certainly isn't a bag for royalty, but it's not a bad choice for girls on a budget.

Ordinarily L.A.M.B.'s accessories feature loud Rasta inspired color schemes, neon colors, or checkerboards, but there's none of that flamboyance here. Instead the soft tumbled leather finish is classically rendered with diamond quilting. The black color is another traditional choice.

The Marlene's also perfectly serviceable, with just the right amount of space and plenty of functional features. The interior is generous but not overwhelming, with a collection of interior pockets to complement the zippered one we see on the front. Its shoulder straps are long but not too long, and flat so they'll stay on your shoulder while you're out and about.

In the Marlene, Gwen Stefani's probably created her most accessible purse. You really can't say anything bad about it. But in creating something so crowd-pleasing I also feel her L.A.M.B.'s label's lost its spark. It's nice enough, but you'll probably find something comparable for less than the $368 price tag we see here.
