This minaudiere isn't too different to the ones Judith Leiber creates, although its design is much more wearable than many of her quirky creations. Its retro geometric pattern takes us back to the 70s with its earthy metallics. Its rounded edges soften the look and make it more ergonomic. However I'm not sure I'd trust those crystals to stay put if you only hold the purse by hand, especially as Savanna doesn't provide extra gemstones as many fashion house's do. Thankfully there's also a long chain strap to help us out.

This minaudiere's interior is small and simple. There are no real surprises here, although the leather lining makes this petite compartment feel a bit more opulent.

Most Savanna bags clock in well under $100, but not this beauty. It's much more expensive at $800. That's a real jump for the label's fans to swallow, but when you compare it to similar minaudieres on the market it's a relatively affordable way to rock a high class look.

Footwear king Brian Atwood is adding handbags to his fashionable range.

Atwood is starting small, with plans to release just four evening purses this spring. The clutches and minaudieres will be sold in limited quantities exclusively through Gilt.com. Their rarity and high class materials see them priced on the high side, between $1,050 and $1,850.

Atwood says that he's always loved designing handbags, and after repeated requests to release some he decided to bow to the pressure.

"It seemed like the right time to start with chic clutches then eventually expand on that," he explained.

While choosing a favorite purse is probably like choosing a favorite child, Atwood admits that he's partial to the modern zipper-framing of his Carla clutch. This design is available in a range of materials, including suede and crocodile skin, so we can assume the other purses will also be released in various skins.

If those four-figure purses are out of your price range, don't despair. Atwood says he also plans to add handbags to his more affordable diffusion line, B Brian Atwood. And soon the lads will also be able to indulge in Brian Atwood designs, as he plans to add men's footwear to his signature collection.

There's a lot to love about this minaudiere. Its jewel shape is really striking, and I love the way its angled lines are emphasized with polished golden brass. I also adore the way the moody tortoiseshell acetate panels complement the gleaming metal. But then Louis Vuitton had to go and slap its large logo on top of things.

It's a shame that while the fashion industry has moved away from obvious branding, Louis Vuitton hasn't followed suit. We get it; this is a Louis Vuitton purse. But by screaming it in such a loud way, the minaudiere loses a lot of its class. Leaving it at the subtle engraving on the push lock clasp would have appeared much more elegant.

Personally I think the logo cheapens the minaudiere and makes it appear less than its $3500 price tag. If you're a fan I suppose you'll be happy to advertise you're carrying Louis Vuitton. Personally I'm disappointed that a bag with such promise has ended up looking so tacky and dated.

This minaudiere has all of the luxury of its stablemates but in my opinion it's much more wearable. Multicolored Swarovski crystals are expertly applied to create a delicate patchwork and floral design. Its rich colors and black lines make it resemble a stunning stained glass window. The design is set off beautifully by a black cabachon topped push clasp.

It shouldn't surprise you that this isn't a very practical purse. No one buys such a show pony expecting functionality. It's very small so carrying even the essentials is a tall order. But at least we get a golden shoulder strap and a few extra crystals for at home repairs. Those clever touches are more than many high end designers provide!

It's quite fitting that this minaudiere is shaped like a money bag, because you'll probably need a few of those to afford this purse. At $2675 this clutch is strictly for cashed up fashionistas.

Vibrant teal colored satin peeks out from underneath its bold black lace. The eighties styles that were once so prevalent are making way for seventies inspired fashions, which makes this purse slightly dated, but if you love the decade you won't mind that one bit. There are also black, champagne, and blush versions if you prefer something more timeless, but they don't have quite the same pop.

Of course this Lace Minaudiere comes with all the usual complications that plague these kinds of evening bags. It's very narrow, and its structured design means you can't sneak any extra items inside. It'll require careful packing, and even then you'll probably need to leave some of your usual essentials behind. However it does come with a drop-in shoulder chain, which is a convenience we don't often see at this price point.

I can scarcely believe this minaudiere is just $64. That's a bargain in anyone's language, even if it isn't perfect!

Love it or loathe it; there's certainly no ignoring this purse. Its egg shape is eye-catching, particularly as it's covered in tiny glittering sequins. And if we still weren't paying attention, there's an oversized flower accent with a flashy beaded center. It's bound to be too showy for many girls but I think in basic black Bourne might just get away with the design. I'm not so keen on the aubergine and smoke varieties, but I'm sure there are girls out there who'll appreciate their more daring color combinations.

No one buys a bag like this expecting practicality. The egg shape we love limits storage space even more than a traditional box clutch. And don't even think about overstuffing it. Its clasp will pop open defiantly if you try and stash extra items inside.

At $172.50 the Stephanie costs a bit more than I like to spend on an after-five accessory, but if you've got a busy holiday season you might see value here.

This egg-shaped purse appears to be covered with lacey flowers taken from ornamental doilies. Each bloom, even the teeny tiny ones, is dotted with an opalescent bead at the center. The combination of pearls and lacey flowers brings a sweet old-world charm to the futuristically shaped clutch.

This minaudiere's egg shape isn't simply about attracting attention; it's also very ergonomic. The minaudiere will sit neatly in your palm, which is a good thing as Sondra Roberts hasn't offered us a shoulder strap.

This minaudiere's shape does limit storage space somewhat, as does its structured design. However I don't think anyone buys such a clutch expecting practicality. It'll hold the barest of essentials, but you may need to utilize the deep pockets of your partner for anything more.

The strap is a glaring omission but not entirely a surprising one for the money. At $165 it's very cheap for a purse so stylish. I think I might have found my Christmas party season purse!

I'm going to forget about the price tag and just dream for a while. The red Swarovski crystals covering the rose's petals are dazzling. I love the way that black and white gems create depth on the design. I'm not so fond of the black tassel that hangs from the base, but I suppose it adds a bit of Middle Eastern charm. Even with the offending decoration this rose is such a work of art that it's easy to forget that it's actually a purse!

A small push lock clasp helps you open up the bud. It's so tiny that it's pretty ineffectual, but you should be able to fit some loose change inside it. There's also a mirror embedded into the lining, so it's not completely useless!

The lack of functionality is to be expected with purses like this. And sadly, so is the exorbitant price tag. At $2825 this minaudiere costs much more than my first car. If you've got money to burn this purse is a great way to burn it!

It gets its name not from shoddy craftsmanship but from its stylish angled corners. I really love the contemporary quirk they bring to what is otherwise a very traditional Judith Leiber minaudiere. Traditional never means staid in the case of Judith Leiber though. Gray Austrian crystals are arranged in an arabesque design, nestled amongst onyx pyramid studs. The onyx cabochon decorated push lock clasp sits proudly atop the polished metal frame.

This minaudiere is far from practical though. It's very small and slender, so you'll be lucky to fit even the essentials inside. There's also no strap, which may disappoint modern misses. Personally I think one would ruin the look, although there's no denying it would have made it a bit more functional. This is really a purse that works more as a statement piece, a work of art, rather than a convenient carry case.

And we pay the sort of price usually reserved for a work of fine art too, a mammoth $3495. My frugal side suggests that no purse should cost that much, but my fashion loving one knows that a Judith Leiber clutch has every right to command the big bucks.

The Donatella isn't as showy as many minaudieres, but that doesn't make it any less striking. This midnight shade is so dark that it's almost black, a color that makes the lizard embossed skin seem dangerous and dramatic. There's also a petrol tone, but sadly it doesn't have the rainbow undertones its name suggests. If you're after basic black though, you'll be glad for the option.

I love the Donatella's clean looks, but I find its features sadly lacking. We never expect a lot of space from structured purses like this, but that doesn't make its limitations any less disappointing. It's essentials only when you're carrying this baby.

But I'm even more disappointed with the chain strap, which is too short to really be of use. It can't comfortably fit over your shoulder, so you're left dangling it awkwardly over your arm. I wouldn't want to use it, but as it's not detachable the only alternative is to leave it cluttering the already small interior.

The Donatella is a welcome alternative to the more ostentatious minaudieres on the market, but I'm not sure I can overlook those niggles for $150. Can you?
