There's something so alluring about a bright, white leather handbag like this. Its lines are elegantly clean and its finish so refined that it'd never look out of place. Its domed shape is a true classic, ensuring we can wear this bag well after we've purchased it.

The Cosmos is amply sized for everyday use, ensuring we can fit everything we need inside it without being tempted to add extras. That's a good thing too, because the straps are a shade too short for easy over the shoulder carrying. Petite girls might manage, but a few extra inches would have made all the difference.

Even with too short straps the Cosmos is one of the strongest designs to ever come from Longchamp. I won't pretend its white leather will look so pristine after a few seasons wear, but at a relatively affordable $810 it doesn't need to last an age for us to see value.

The Reed has a really clean look which makes it appear very modern. There isn't any frills or fuss about it, although its bold orange color gives it a real pop. This is far from our only option, but I think the Reed needs such a vivid color to avoid blending into the background. If you'd prefer a more tried and true look though, perhaps you'd enjoy the Reed in black or brown.

The Reed has a chic structured design which makes it appear more sophisticated than many other messengers. While I appreciate the look, it's also worth noting that it limits storage space a little. Personally I think the Reed is large enough that this shouldn't be an issue, but packrats may disagree. That's especially true if you leave the wallet behind and use the credit card slots and organizational pockets in the rear compartment.

I appreciate the length of the Reed's strap, and its adjustable buckle which allows us to convert the messenger from a shoulder bag to cross-body. However it could stand to be a bit wider. Once you fill the Reed up, it's likely to tug at your shoulder.

This is a minor niggle in what's otherwise a really smart bag, and at $219 an affordable one to boot.

The flower accent really is La Fleur's crowning glory. It's been beautifully crafted from pieces of authentic leather, sewn together to create a head-turning bloom. But that's not all this bag has going for it. The tote's gentle curves work with the bold ring handles to bring a retro feel to the classic tote shape. I can't imagine those handles will be easy to use, especially when the bag's full, but don't they look smart?

While the exterior is striking, I can't help being disappointed by this tote's interior. It's very simple, almost as if Jesselli Couture forgot about it. There's no closure and no pockets at all. It's also lined in black fabric, which makes it difficult to find anything we've put inside. It truly is a black hole! A bag this size really needs more organizational aids if it's to become an everyday accessory.

Its minimalist interior is disappointing, but at $349 this Jesselli Couture still represents great value. That's not a lot to spend on a real leather tote with such an elaborate design.

The purse is the work of Canadian born designer and singer Aasha. She says she was inspired to create the purse to keep pace with her busy life as a recording artist and new mother. She called it Cho Cho after the Japanese word for butterfly. The animal, which is a symbol of the freedom and beauty the bag embodies, is emblazoned across the front of the purse.

Personally I wonder whether we really need a bag made for holding smart phones. After all, our regular accessories seem to have enough space for carrying this new technology and other items as well. However there are a few features about the Cho Cho that caught my eye. While the design is a bit gaudy for my tastes I can't fault its quality. Aasha has used genuine lambskin leather and decorated it with authentic Swarovski crystals. I also like the secret window on the back, which allows us to check our smartphone for messages and calls without removing it from the purse. The adjustable and removable straps also allow us to wear it three ways for extra versatility.

So while I'm not sure the market was crying out for the Cho Cho as its creators would lead us to believe, many gadget loving girls will probably embrace this tech-focused purse. It's available to order through the Cho Cho Bags website.

The Georgina's not fussy after five wear, but it has a more sophisticated finish than most of the Foley + Corinna line. While it could dress up a dark pair of denims it'd also look perfect with any evening ensemble. Crocodile embossed leather always looks smart, but with gold gilding defining the white scales this finish appears extra rich. The exotic surface works well with the Georgina's chic angular lines. This is your classic envelope clutch revamped for the 21st century.

The Georgina is larger than most envelope clutches, but Foley + Corinna doesn't really allow us to make use of all that space. As there's no attachable strap we're likely to struggle with it once it's full. At least there's a large zippered pocket inside to help us stay organized.

The lack of a shoulder strap is a real functional flaw for a clutch so large, but at least Foley + Corinna seem to be making amends with the price. At $325 I wouldn't exactly call it a bargain, but it's quite reasonable for a purse with of such quality and sophisticated style.

Honestly I'm struggling to find anything to appreciate about this confused purse. I suppose the red fox fur trim is opulent, although it doesn't seem like it belongs on this playful flower accented purse. Of course the use of genuine fur also has its ethical issues. No matter what side of the argument you fall, I'm sure you'll agree the pelt hasn't been used well here.

The glazed ayers snakeskin body is also stunning, but it's hidden by the silk flap and bold flower. Sadly that decoration cheapens the purse. The glass beads are delicate enough, but they still mask the skin we're paying through the nose for.

The materials are so opulent, but I don't think they belong on the same purse. It's almost like Fendi wanted to prove the purse's pedigree without considering what really works.

Despite its premier materials, the big flower detail makes the Daisy look pretty casual. Perhaps that's a good thing, because you'll want to get plenty of wear from the Daisy. With its hefty $2,270 price tag, regular use is the only way you'll get your money's worth!

The trend has prevailed for several seasons, but I'm still wondering when the tide will turn. When it does a subtly colorblocked bag like the Melinda will endure, while ones with wilder color palettes will date quickly.

None of the Melindas is too daring, but if you're looking for a timeless option I think this neutral brown bag is the pick of them. The pop of color on the other versions is pleasing for now, but their longevity is questionable. However at $160, perhaps only the bargain hunters will worry about how long it'll stay in vogue!

Whichever color palette you choose, you'll appreciate the Melinda's practical features. It's a good mid-sized bag arranged well, with a spacious zippered pocket and quartet of open pouches inside and another slip on the back. The handles are a shade too short for my liking, but with a longer attachable strap provided that's no real concern.

The Melinda is part of the new breed of Etienne Aigner bags, a satchel that looks much fresher than its tired logo covered designs. If the label can continue to create such modern accessories for such little money I'll be impressed!

Its classic style is updated with a colourful Ikat pattern. Ikat designs were traditionally dyed, but the digital print makes more sense in a contemporary climate. Digital prints use less water and dyes than regular coloring methods, so they're kinder on the planet. The canvas material is another sustainable choice.

It's a little surprising then to see Cynthia Vincent add leather handles and trim. The details dress up the design, but they also undermine its green credentials. Choosing a vegan leather or even leather offcuts would have been more sustainable options.

Eco concerns aside, the Cove is a pretty practical tote. It's too large to work as an everyday bag, but it's perfect for a day at the beach or a trip to the farmers' market. Its interior is also surprisingly well appointed with a zippered pocket and pair of patch pouches. A tote so large could stand to have more substantial shoulder straps, but they should be strong enough to hold.

I always hesitate to spend more than $100 on a fabric tote, and at $225 this one's much pricier than that. However it's so large that perhaps it's worth the splurge!

Raffia is often used on summery bags, but it rarely looks as smart as it does here. The tight weave brings some sophistication to the casual material, especially when it's paired with the complementary pink leatherette trim.

The pale pastel color scheme might be too feminine for some fashionistas, but it's not as sugary as it might have been. Personally I think it's the pick of the collection. The white hobo with the tan trim is classic but also a bit too safe. The Yazmin's also available in green, but its citrusy trim doesn't quite gel with the mellower raffia body.

No matter what color you select, you'll appreciate the Yazmin's practical design. This hobo is enormous, so it could easily become a beach bag or market shopper. It could probably use a few more pockets, but the trio Chocolate's provided do the job well enough. I also appreciate the wide leatherette strap which is long enough for easy carrying but not too lengthy.

The Yazmin isn't the perfect purse though. Chocolate's been a bit heavy handed with the hardware, and all those chains muddy what might have otherwise been a really smart summer design. However at just $99 Chocolate's offered enough to impress.

While the Lauren doesn't make a particularly strong style statement, it's quite a lovely looking bag. I feel a slight sense of déjà vu as I look at it, but I can help admiring the way its supple leather slouches gently around the top. That red color is also really striking, although I think I like the Lauren just as much in navy and white. Traditionalists may be disappointed there's no black or brown option, but I'm glad to see a label being less predictable.

The Lauren looks modern and youthful, but its appeal goes beyond its surface. We can wear this bag in a variety of ways. The short strap makes it a shoulder bag, while the longer strap converts it into a cross-body. Both are removable so we can enjoy a clean look no matter what mode it's in.

Similar purses can easily fetch more than $1000, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the Lauren costs just $298. That's a steal for any bag that offers such luxury and street smarts.
