In terms of style, this is a bit of a step backwards for the brand. Lately I've been admiring the label's uncharacteristically fashion forward designs, but this represents a return to its roots.

That's not altogether a bad thing though. The happy snails printed fabric is very cute, and the coral colored wrist loop and accent give the Concert Clutch a flirty pop. I wonder why Vera Bradley didn't pick up one of the shades we saw on the material though. Using red or yellow would have been just as much fun and given the purse a more unified look.

We can always count on practicality from a Vera Bradley bag, and this one's no different. At this size we could probably slip a wallet inside, but with eight card slots and a coin pouch we don't need to. That leaves more space for all those other important items.

I'm not a huge fan of wrist straps, so I'm thrilled to see this clutch also comes with a cross-body strap. It's not one of those uncomfortable chains either; it's made from more of that bright coral synthetic.

This Concert Clutch is far from perfect but at $27 it really doesn't have to be. That amount of money rarely buys such practicality!

More modest accessories label Vera Bradley is also enjoying its share of success, with a big 32% sales increase in the third quarter of the financial year. Sales amounted to $121.1 million, compared with $91.6 million at the same time in 2010.

These sales figures helped the company's net income grow by 45% to $13 million, up from $6 million last year. On the stock exchange its shares rose to 32c, up from 17c in 2010. The results bettered analyst predictions of the shares fetching 28c.

Vera Bradley chief executive officer Michael C. Ray said it was "pleased" with the results. He attributed the success to the brand's strength, its distinctive portfolio of products, its employees, and of course its loyal customers. Understandably he said he was "optimistic about the long term prospects for Vera Bradley."

The label expects a modest increase in the fourth quarter of an estimated $125 to $130 million in sales. However Randal Konik, an analyst at Jefferies & Co., was even more positive, suggesting that Vera Bradley could stand to make $130.6 million in the year's final quarter. He pointed to the way customers have embraced Vera Bradley's winter prints and new holiday gift ideas as reasons for optimism.

Personally I've been really impressed by the more modern bags we've seen from Vera Bradley this year. I'm glad the riskier designs have paid dividends for the beloved American label, aren't you?

However in recent collections we've seen the American label experimenting. I've celebrated these more fashion forward creations, but with this Tippy Tie bag from the Frill collection I wonder whether the designer's gone too far.

I think the biggest mistake here is the use of synthetic. The gathering around the top of the purse only emphasizes the material's stiffness. The finish is so shiny that it looks cheap. I don't mind the print, but I'd much rather see it on another fabric. We wouldn't expect real leather from Vera Bradley, as the designer's made her reputation on affordable accessories. But I wonder why she's abandoned her iconic quilted cloth. In that material this bag would look lovely!

The design itself isn't bad. The large bow at the strap gives this purse some feminine flair, and the elasticized top stretches for easy access. I can see potential here, but that synthetic has to go.

At least it's cheap, right? At $22.95 this is one of the most affordable handbags I've seen in some time. It's just a shame it doesn't have more class.

Vera Bradley plans to double the size of its Indiana distribution center to meet increased demand for its patterned fabric purses, leather items, and other accessories.

Vera Bradley experienced a 30% sales increase in its second quarter, with sales jumping from $80.1 million a year ago to $103.8 million. It's predicted the company will enjoy sales of between $438 million and $443 million by year's end.

It will cost an estimated $22.5 million to take the current 220, 000 square foot space to almost 420, 000 square feet, but it seems the money will be well spent. The expansion will see approximately 124 new jobs created at the Roanoke plant. The development will commence this fall, with a view to completion at the same time next year.

Vera Bradley's chief executive officer Michael C. Ray says that investing in the revamped distribution center will help the company achieve its long-term goals including expansion into new channels and locations. It is currently working with the state of Indiana and city councils in Fort Wayne and Allen County to support its investment in new jobs and ongoing commitment to Northeastern Indiana.

I've been really impressed with Vera Bradley's designs in recent seasons, which seem to be adopting more of a fashion forward look, so it's impressive to see these creative risks are paying off for the homegrown label.

Gone are the prints we know and in some cases love. Instead Vera Bradley's opted for a rich navy blue microfiber material. The diamond quilting has also been ditched in favor of a more interesting round bubble effect. Rounded stitched corners add interest and strength, while the front pocket gives us the practicality Vera Bradley is known for.

This pocket is just the start of this saddle bag's functional features. There's a large slip pocket in the back for stashing receipts, and an assortment of other pouches inside. This saddle bag is mid-sized so it really suits everyday use, as does its long shoulder strap.

Vera Bradley might be showing a new sophistication here, but that doesn't come with inflated charges. By pricing this purse at a mere $75, the label's showing us that some things never change!

For too long it seems Vera Bradley has relied on diamond quilting and classic designs to stamp its mark on its accessories. But in recent seasons we've seen Vera Bradley move in a slightly different direction, and I think the line is better for it. The Night Owl patterned cotton is a throwback to the past, but without quilting running along it we can better appreciate its design.

The tiny owls peek out from sweet vertical pleats, which give the Hannah some movement and volume. The V-shaped yoke completes a design which is adorable, if not very fashion forward.

The Hannah is on the small side though, so it might not suit the needs of many modern girls. It's a great size for the days you want to travel light, but it's probably not going to become anyone's go-to accessory.

But for $39.95, it doesn't really need to be. That price is affordable for any bag, especially one as cute as this!

Vera Bradley has fun with patchwork here, using curved swatches of her signature fabrics to create a finish which is quite stylish and modern. What it lacks in luxury it certainly makes up for in personality. This is definitely an improvement over those tired old square patches!

The Jazzy clutch looks relatively simple, but its interior is actually packed with features. I was pleasantly surprised to find slots for five cards tucked away in there. That might not be enough for a serious shopping spree, but in a purse that seems so basic at first I'm thankful for what we get!

Hand-held clutching's all well and good, but it can become tiresome by the end of the day. Thankfully Vera Bradley adds a removable wrist strap for those times we want to go hands free.

Vera Bradley's crammed a lot of value into this purse, which helps to justify its price tag of $45. That's a bit expensive for a Vera Bradley bag, especially one so small, but I'm still seriously tempted.

This purse is so cute it just makes me want to gush. I love its structured, round shape, and the way the flower appliqué on the top mirrors the floral print which winds its way around the sides. The colors are cheery and fresh, and the pink patent trim finishes things off nicely.

Honestly I'd swoon over this purse even if its beauty was only skin deep, but I'm thankful that Vera Bradley hasn't skimped on functional features. The wrap around zip top makes it easy to open this cosmetics case up and access our beauty must haves. An elasticized pocket in the lid gives us an extra bit of storage space.

This cosmetics case is made for travel rather than nights out with the girls, but I probably wouldn't save it for my weekends away. Wouldn't it just look darling sitting on a dresser? And at a mere $21, we really can't go wrong!

After decades of producing the same old quilted patterned bags, Vera Bradley has begun to shake things up. The cheekily named Cha Cha gives us one of these more exciting new looks.

It's an appropriate name, as this bag certainly reminds me of something a ballroom dancer may wear with its layer upon layer of ruffles. Each frill is made from an alternating swatch of material, so I guess in some ways this is like a new take on patchwork.

Whatever it is, I like it. The colors and prints clash delightfully with the bold turquoise leather shoulder straps. That might intimidate some conservative girls, but I think it only makes it more versatile. I wouldn't wear it with a heavily patterned ensemble, but it should be able to pick up the colors of most other outfits.

Vera Bradley has never let us down on the practical front, and she's not about to start now. This is a good mid-sized bag, not too big or too small. The inner zip compartment and pair of slip pockets are really all you need to keep your small items organized, and there's enough space for most everyday large items.

All that new found sassiness doesn't come with an inflated price tag either. You'll find Vera Bradley's Cha Cha bag for $58.
