The Maya tries very hard to appeal to bagistas. Its design takes its cues from Hermes, although it's a far cry from any Birkin bag. Its quilted leopard print panel sounded good in theory, but the execution is off. The too shiny synthetic trim only makes the spotted animal body seem tackier.

The Maya's generous dimensions are impressive, but they're about the only part of the main compartment we can get excited about. The trio of interior pockets goes some way towards keeping the space organized, but I feel like we've seen it all before. The synthetic that trims the pockets is a nice touch, but it's still not enough to woo me.

Frankly the Maya looks like the kind of accessory a cougar might carry while she's trying to find a rich young husband. Its $118 price tag is affordable, but I can think of plenty of better ways to spend that sort of cash.

Knitted bags are perfect for the wintery weather approaching, but I've never seen one quite like this. It looks like it was crafted from Mexican ponchos, which isn't altogether a bad thing. I love the way the black synthetic complements the knit's distinctive print, and the structure the piping gives.

The drawstring closure is a bit of a double edged sword. I'm always a bit down on these clasps, as they're fiddly to use and not very safe. However there's no denying that this one looks the part. There's also a magnetic closure to support the tie, and a long zippered pocket inside, so we've certainly got enough places to keep things secure.

The long straps are the piece de resistance. They're flat, so they'll sit easily on our shoulders without sliding off. And as they're so long, you can simply grab them as we're running out the door!

The BJanessa is definitely a bag for the hippie chicks. Ordinarily we pack our boho items away once summer ends, but this is a great way to wear the look in the cooler months. And at just $78, we won't mind if it spends half the year in the closet.

With its ruffled top and diagonal detail, not to mention its oversized bow, this shoulder bag is ultra feminine. But in this gentle nude blush, I think Steve Madden gets away with all those saccharine accents. The bland color tempers the frothy embellishments, and they liven up what could have otherwise been a pretty boring bag.

It looks like it's all play, but the BHarmony is actually quite a practical carry-all. Its dual handles are long enough to sit on your shoulder, but rolled straps do have a tendency to go sliding. There's also a detachable cross-body strap, which is probably a more functional carrying option if you've got a distance to travel.

The BHarmony is generously sized, but its divided interior makes the space very manageable. There are also zip and slip pockets tucked away so there's no excuse for disorganization!

Steve Madden does use pleather rather than real leather, and it's too thin and shiny to fool anyone. But it also puts the price at a relatively affordable $108. Do you think it's worth the compromise?

Alright, so the BPal might not be able to fix a margarita or dry your tears, but it is a very practical, very convenient accessory. The synthetic panels dress up the nylon body, helping it make that transition from a day at the mall to happy hour afterwards. Also helping the cause is the detachable strap, which enables this cross-body to convert to a clutch once you hit the town.

Personally I feel the BPal is a bit big to work comfortable as a clutch, but if you're not carrying a lot perhaps you'll get away with it. It's tough to balance daytime needs with nighttime style, so while I'm not sure Steve Madden has pulled it off I appreciate his efforts.

It may not be genuine leather, but there is no guessing just how expensive this purse could be were it in genuine calfskin covered in Swarovski gems! Sure, high-end designer bags can be gorgeous, and perhaps more to the point they can be seen as status symbols. However, when we just want a pretty purse that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, it is good to know that designers like Steve Madden are there to help us out.

The BBullet clutch is one such purse. The $58.95 price tag ensures we don't get the luxury of real leather, but to be honest that crinkled tan faux-leather does a pretty good job of looking like the real thing. It may not feel authentic, but if we are honest does this actually matter? When the color coordinates so nicely with the brassy gold studs along the front, I expect details like the feel aren't really going to be a priority.

As for the function, well this tidy clutch offers a decent amount of it. It folds over to close, offering plenty of room, and it comes with a top zip and an internal zip pocket, all of which is very handy. There is no handle though, which is a shame.

Still, the BBullet is a pretty purse for those on a budget.

The lawsuit says that Deschanel's agent and Steve Madden made a binding oral contract in August 2010, which declared that Zooey would receive $2 million to become the face of a line called Zooey's Shoes and Accessories. The deal was intended to cover 13 days of work, including an ad campaign shoot and media obligations. It went on to stipulate that Zooey would earn her money whether the collection was made or not.

Madden returned to Deschanel's people a few weeks later and negotiated a smaller $1.5 million fee due to complications with a major retailer. The new amount was agreed upon, and it was decided that Deschanel could not enter into a similar deal with any other fashion label.

Fast forward to October, when Madden told Deschanel's agent the deal was off. But give the original terms of the contract, Deschanel still wants her moolah.

California State law declares that verbal contracts are binding, but it really is a case of he said, she said. It's predicted Madden will pay up to avoid bad press over the issue. No one wants to see this thing get messy in court. And hopefully it'll pave the way for the stylish Ms Deschanel to really design a line for another label. We all know that takes more than 13 days after all!

Or perhaps I'm being too harsh on this bag. The studding around the top of the bag shows uncharacteristic restraint, and the olive green synthetic is of much better quality than many man-made materials we see at this price point. The design is clean and uncluttered, a master of minimalism. Sadly though, it's just not very exciting.

That's a shame, because once we unzip the top there's a lot to like. That pretty pink lining hints at the Steve Madden we all know and love, and the reinforced pockets are made to survive daily punishment. Even when we don't get leather, designers that pay attention to these details really impress me. I also like the choice of carrying options; we could sling the handles over an arm, or attach the longer, adjustable strap to tote the BBridget as a shoulder bag or cross-body.

For $98.95, Steve Madden offers an affordable way to indulge in the military trend while it lasts. I just wish he did it with a bit more flair.

The name is a bit misnomer, as there's really nothing too outrageous about this purse. While studs tend to add some rock and roll edge, there's nothing too revolutionary about their use here. The three columns of large silver studs are rock and roll the same way that Nickelback is rock and roll, pleasant to be around but not edgy enough to shock.

It does the job though, with a decent amount of space for carrying essentials, and a convenient zippered pocket for keeping them organized. With so many wristlets offering only tiny patch pockets, or no pockets at all, that's a real plus. I also like the handy wrist strap, which is easily removable if you want to carry the purse as a clutch.

I quite like the BManic in classic black, as the metallics seem a bit brassy for my taste. However they could be just the thing for carrying to your next party. After all, at a mere $38.95 you might want to get one in every shade!
