It's been refreshing to see its bags less embellished, and less pink. However it may have taken its new image a few steps too far with the Mimi tote.

In stripping away such distinctive elements, it seems Juicy Couture's lost its personality. The Mimi is a very simple tote, with a traditional boxy shape and no superfluous frills. At best it's clean and minimalist. At worst it's boring. It's always helpful to have a bag like this in the closet when you're wearing a complicated ensemble that doesn't want upstaging, but it'll never inspire handbag envy.

Don't dismiss the Mimi out of hand though, because it really is a well put together tote. Its spacious interior has all the pockets we'd expect, while the outside has a handy slip pocket and detachable key chain. I also appreciate the turn-lock closure, which makes the Mimi appear refined while offering vital security.

Some more inspiring color options could have made the Mimi much more. A simple tote like this really lends itself to saturated jewel hues. While the pale almond color has a splash of metallic the effect is so subtle it's easily missed.

I know I wished for Juicy Couture to show more restraint a few years ago, but this tote makes me long for the label of old!

Lately the fashion house has been showing a more polished reserved side, but perhaps you can never completely take the showiness out of the label. It's almost like it was bottling all that garishness up until it reached boiling point. And now with the Northern Star it's let loose, and how!

Every square inch of the Northern Star is covering in glitzy purple sequins. There's also a silver version, but I figure if you're going to go girly, why not go all the way? All those shiny metal discs will seem over the top to many, but I think they work on a bag so small. I could never carry a tote made out of the same fabric; it'd simply be too much. But on a purse so petite the shimmery finish offers a dazzling pop.

Even though I enjoy the Northern Star I know I'd never wear it everywhere. It's a party purse, made for karaoke nights and cocktails with your besties. And since it costs just $98, it doesn't matter if we only bring it out once in a while.

Without any loud logos or splashes of pink, it's a bit hard to believe!

Admittedly Juicy Couture has been showing a more mature side lately, but it's outdone itself with the Blueprint Harriet. Suddenly it's not just creating inoffensive handbags; it's creating bags that can go toe to toe with the best on the market.

The mint green color gives the Blueprint Harriet the youthful energy Juicy Couture's known for, but it's much more wearable than the sugary pinks and purples of old. It looks fresh for spring, but I can imagine carrying it all year round. If you're not convinced though you could always opt for cognac or black. The hues color soft weathered leather which will only look better in time.

The Blueprint Harriet is blissfully free of obnoxious logos, a sign that Juicy Couture is finally moving with the times. The Juicy Couture name is engraved on the front buckle, but it's so small that you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it. It's a guarantee for owners that their bag is an original, rather than a way to advertise the purchase to passers-by.

The Blueprint Harriet is so practical too, with plenty of space and then some. I can't imagine wanting more room than it offers, but if you do just let out the base and expand it! Extra pockets hidden on the back and underneath the flap ensure that even at its largest configuration the Blueprint Harriet stays managable.

Juicy Couture's designs are definitely on the up but its prices aren't. At $378 the Blueprint Harriet is a very tempting proposition.

And they don't get much sillier than the North Shore Lynn Tote.

Carry a cutesy tote like this in the thick of winter and you'll be laughed out of town. But once the weather warms its brightly colored raffia body and matching raffia pom-poms become whimsical and charming.

Perhaps I'm just longing for that warmer weather, but I like this tote in spite of myself. Its orange color is irresistible, the perfect foil for those mellow nude vachetta leather handles and trim. These could stand to be much wider, but as they're made from real leather they should last.

The open top design offers easy access to our summer essentials, but on the flip side it compromises security. Thankfully Juicy Couture has added a trio of interior pockets, including a secure zippered one, to keep a few valuables safe.

Honestly at $198 this Juicy Couture tote is overpriced. It probably should cost about half that amount, and I'm sure it would if it didn't have the Juicy Couture name attached. However it's so unique that anyone taken with it might have good reason to splurge.

Sadly though I think the passion might be fading.

For some time now we've marveled at the way Juicy Couture has moved from tacky pink velour accessories to much more refined handbags. However in my opinion this wallet is a step backwards. The velour is back, and so is the over-embellished design. Did we really need all those charms, and the large tassel on the zipper? On a larger wallet the details may have worked, but here it seems like way too much.

In contrast to its exterior, the Go Steady's main compartment is very basic. There are no pockets, no credit card slots, nothing but fabric lining. That makes it perfect for some coins and your keys, but not a lot else.

I suppose we should be grateful the Go Steady's not pink, but that's small consolation really. While we're looking for positives, it's also cheap at $48. That's still not enough to sway me, but it's a real plus for Juicy Couture fans.

Big bows like the one adorning this clutch are Juicy Couture staples. They're unashamedly girly and a whole lot of fun, but they can easily appear over the top. Juicy Couture gets away with this accent here though by keeping the rest of the clutch quite neutral. The gentle silvery hue and classic diamond quilting tempers the feminine feature.

The Gifting Bow Clutch also has the right size on its side. It's large enough to hold everything we need, but not so large that it appears overwhelming. A purse with such an obvious decoration needs to be a bit smaller lest it appear silly.

It's still a little large to easily carry by hand in my opinion, so I'm glad to see the chain accented strap. It won't feel especially comfortable on our shoulder, but it should make life a bit simpler.

It's got high quality materials on its side, but such a cutesy clutch still seems a little steep at $198. Perhaps it's time to place my order with Santa!

Perhaps I should stop expecting Juicy Couture to create frothy velour monstrosities, as we've been pleasantly surprised by many of the label's creations over the last year. This Live for Love Canvas Tote hardly pushes the fashion envelope, but it's another playful and restrained addition to the line.

I really appreciate the "Live for Love" slogan, which is a lot less obnoxious than some of the lines the brand used to favor. It's rendered in feminine silver, aqua, and lemon hues, which contrast beautifully with that pretty cantelope shade. It makes a nice change from overused coral, and even more predictable pink.

It looks like your average canvas tote, but that velour lined interior boasts a few practical perks. In a high end leather bag the two slip pockets and the zippered pouch would be stock standard, but here it makes us feel spoilt. If only there was a zip or some kind of clasp across the top I'd feel completely satisfied!

I like the look of the leather handles, but unfortunately they push the price up to $148. I always hesitate to spend more than $100 on a canvas bag, but this one has such charm I'm tempted to break my rule!

Juicy Couture is celebrating its youthful side with its colorful fall 2011 advertising campaign. Famed fashion photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot the ad in New York City with Brazilian model Raquel Zimmermann.

The advertising campaign is somewhat appropriately called "Couture is Here." Well with all that color and movement, that fact was never in question! The company's president and CCO LeAnn Nealz said the label aimed to play up the "couture" part of its name with these advertisements which emphasize its "fun, glamorous, unapologetic side."

Frankly I think this ad is a bit messy. It's hard to even find the cute mini handbag and top handled satchel amongst all the clutter. These bags are right on trend though, emulating the looks we've seen on the fall runways nicely. And knowing Juicy Couture, we'll get them for a lot less than the high end labels will charge! Satchels are never really out of vogue, but small cross-body purses like this have gained recent momentum as a hands-free clutch alternative.

Look for the ads in the September editions of popular fashion magazines including Vanity Fair, Bazaar, Vogue, and its little sister Teen Vogue. The new handbags and the rest of the Juicy Couture collection will begin to arrive in the label's boutiques this month.

The sequin covered heart accent takes things over the edge, but delightfully so.

Small purses like this are never packed with features, but the selection of card slots makes this one more practical than most. With your cards taken care of you won't need a wallet, so you can use that interior for storing a tiny coin pouch, a favorite tube of gloss, your cell phone, and your keys. That's the barest of basics, but what else do you need on an evening out?

For $78 we're not getting a lot of bag for our dollar, but we are getting a lot of personality.

But that's not always the case these days, as the label flexes its creative muscle in new ways. This Retro Floral Tote is part of the new breed.

I wouldn't say this tote is revolutionary, but it's a very different bag from the ones we typically associate with the label. Its mellow gray color is very subdued, and its monochrome floral print one for the modern girls. There's also no branding, which is definitely a new look for the label. As the world moves away from obvious logos and signatures, I'm glad to see Juicy Couture keeping pace.

This tote is fairly simple, but I wouldn't say it's basic. There's a selection of pockets in the side wall to ensure the sizable space stays organized. We really need them too, as without any closure we rely on it for security. Personally I'd have preferred a zip, or at least a magnetic snap, but at least it offers easy access.

Frankly I think $148 is too much to pay for any canvas tote, and this one isn't innovative enough to change my mind. But it is a step in the right direction for Juicy Couture!
