Falchi's purses typically make an impression, but it seems the designer wasn't leaving anything to chance. The exotic looking skin is emblazoned with leopard spots to make it even more eye-catching. And if you still weren’t paying attention, Falchi's trimmed the edges with red leather.

It's unusual to see Falchi dabbling with an exotic embossed leather rather than the real deal, but it's a smart choice. The leopard spots would always obscure the natural beauty of snake, but we'd still pay for the privilege of carrying it. Here we get virtually the same looks for a little less.

Notice that I said a little less though. This clutch is so much fun, but its price tag unfortunately brings us back down to earth. At $595, it's a more expensive proposition than I expected. It's a bit cheaper than Carlos Falchi's usual exotic fare, but still not as affordable as comparable leather purses. Perhaps Falchi forgot he used leather rather than real snakeskin when pricing it! This is a striking accessory, but I wouldn't jump unless it's on sale.

This is one of those rare Carlos Falchi handbags that looks much richer than it actually is. I'd started to feel that animal print was becoming passé, but the treatment here has changed my mind. I love the way the delicate zebra stripes have been subtly applied to this tote's microfiber body. The same tote is available in classic black and white, but I prefer this unexpected coral red hue.

Sadly the interior is as basic as you can get. The main compartment is spacious but without any pockets or other organizational aids. There's not even a clasp to keep our items safe. The base is flat, but there seems little point in that when the tote itself is so soft. Carlos Falchi might argue that his design offers easy access to our swag, but I'll take security any day.

Despite its functional failings this tote might still be worth its money, particularly if you've always dreamed of owning a Carlos Falchi handbag. At $220 it's still probably too expensive, but also more affordable than most of the label's range!

This bag is all about that gorgeous Caiman fuscus crocodile. It shines like a neon sign in white. The pale fabric helps us marvel at each and every scale. And marveling I am, even if it's not very PC these days to celebrate animal skins. Looking at a bag like this makes you realize just how far embossed leathers must come if they're going to compete.

The Kite is a fairly simple bag, with a very natural slouchy shape. It's enormous too, which only gives us more crocodile to marvel over. The spacious interior is well appointed with a zippered pocket, pair of gadget slips, and even some holders for pens and lipsticks. Not that I'd feel comfortable carrying lipstick anywhere near a white bag!

PETA needn't hunt me down though, because while I'm smitten I'll never be able to afford to spend $4495 on a handbag. And even if I could come up with the cash, I'd never fork it over for a bag that will show stains after a season.

James brings to the position 30 years of experience in retail merchandising and store management. She began her career as a buyer for Bloomingdales and worked her way into various executive positions in retail and marketing. Most recently she held high level roles for Macy's home division, overseeing marketing, storewide, and lease.

In her new position James will work closely with Carlos Falchi's core handbag partner Artisan House, as well as 13 other licensees. She will also liaise with Carlos Falchi's retail partners around the globe on the label's marketing and business development.

Carlos Falchi said he was "so happy" with Maura James' appointment, adding that her background will serve the firm well as they look to develop further retail and licensing opportunities.

It seems like a bit of a mutual admiration society, as James called Falchi "one of the most innovative, influential, and unrivaled designers of our time." With enthusiasm like this I'm sure she'll fit right in at Carlos Falchi, and lead the fashion house to even more success. Do you think she's the right woman for the job?

The red python Carlos Falchi uses is truly stunning, but it's given an added dimension with the flower appliqués. These flowers are made using more of the python, pleated together to create structured blooms. Floral appliqués tend to look a bit fussy and feminine, but with their angled edges and poppy red color these ones are much more modern.

While the exterior is surprising, the rest of this clutch is pretty standard stuff. It's not especially small, but I wouldn't call it large either. That's a very good thing, as there's no shoulder strap on hand to assist us. You won't fit the kitchen sink inside it, but the above average dimensions should help it hold a few extras.

At $1105 this definitely isn't a clutch for everyone, but if you've got the budget prepare to turn some heads!

I recently told you about the Fashion Vault, eBay's bargain basement home of brand new designer goodies. On Monday the site will open up the vault doors to clear out handbags from two of our favorite designers, Carlos Falchi and Betsey Johnson.

These designers are rarely mentioned in the same circles, so it's surprising that they're part of the same sale. But perhaps this is a smart move on eBay's part. The Carlos Falchi bags will appeal to classic beauties who appreciate exotic skins and the finest things in life. Meanwhile girls who just want to have fun can embrace their flamboyant side with the Betsey Johnson purses! No matter what your flavor, you'll no doubt enjoy the savings of up to 65%!

But you'll need to be quick though. The Fashion Vault opens on Monday, February 28, at 9 am Pacific Time, and slams shut on Friday, March 4, at 9 pm. However don't expect the most popular bags to stay stocked for all five days!

Carlos Falchi flirted with affordability with his line for Target, but this microfiber tote is sold under his own premium brand. It doesn't seem like it really deserves to be there though. The exotics we knew and loved are gone, replaced instead by a leopard printed microfiber material. Microfiber is of course simply a fancy way of saying PVC. It's softer than many PVC materials, but it's still a pretty cheap material.

The chocolate brown animal spots glimmer and gleam in the light. I don't mind the metallic finish as a novelty, but it's not very elegant. Betsey Johnson enthusiasts will likely lap it up, but I can't imagine it finding favor with many Carlos Falchi fans.

Once you get over the jarring shock of the exterior though, it's not a badly designed shopper. It seems Carlos Falchi and I have different ways of describing size, as this bag's much larger than I'd expect of a medium bag. But thankfully it's got plenty of features to make it feel manageable, including pockets and pen holders.

But let's face it; when it comes to handbags, nobody believes that it's what's inside that counts. That's especially true when a designer charges $220 for said bag. That's cheap for a Carlos Falchi accessory, but very expensive for a bag made from PVC.

The ombre-dyed python skin on this feed bag is amazing. The color pattern changes gradually from pale tan to golden brown and then to a deep, rich umber. The tones are neutral enough to look natural, but just purposeful enough to add drama to the design. The bag is also available in olive tones, if you prefer an even more dramatic look.

The shape of this feed bag is perfectly slouchy. Frankly, I'm happy to see a slouchy bag that's not a hobo. The shape of this one will lend itself well to boho chic or rock 'n' roll inspired styles. The asymmetrical whip-stitching is an edgy touch that mimics the diagonal pattern of the snakeskin panels and adds another layer of texture.

The details on the bag are subtle, but very successful. I am particularly taken with the strap on this feed bag. The graduated shape and seam reinforcements make it look very snakelike and authentic. The asymmetric flap front closure adds to the elegantly off-kilter design.

$2,195 isn't a bad price for such an exotic and well-designed handbag, particularly one that's casual enough to carry everyday, but striking enough to add a lot of kick to your wardrobe.

This isn't your average hobo. It's more square than hobos traditionally are, and more structured, as well. The front pocket is a great design touch, and also a practical one that will give you easy access to your keys.

This is a seriously chic bag, but one with a little bit of extra panache. At $2,395, it's not exactly cheap, but you could pay far more for a bag of this quality. But, why pay more when this one's so fabulous?

Don't let its name concern you; it might be called a mini but it's much larger than many evening bags. It's no heavyweight, don't get me wrong, but it's long enough to accommodate your party essentials and the tuck-away chain strap.

This really is a party purse, whether the affair is a fun get together with friends or a more up market soiree. It's the kind of accessory that I'd want to carry everywhere, just to show off its taupe python body and glittering jewels. People who prefer minimalist fashion may feel there are too many crystals, but by restricting them to the scalloped flap I think Carlos Falchi manages to get away with the excess.

A purse made of genuine python will never come cheaply, but I was pleasantly surprised to see this one come in under $1000. If you're in the market for a luxury handbag and have a taste for authentic exotics, this may be the clutch for you.
