Burberry Wins Copyright Case | British Label Awarded Millions Against Counterfeiters

Burberry is the latest fashion firm to score a win against counterfeiters. The British company was recently awarded more than $100 million in damages against a network of Chinese based counterfeiters running an online racket.

The accused reportedly sold at least 22 fashion items modelled after Burberry products and bearing the label's trademarks. Yesburberryvision.com and buyburberry are amongst the sites slammed by the lawsuit.

It seems the defendants have no answers to the charges. They failed to answer the complaint which was filed in January, and they didn't even appear in court. Without any words of defence it was an open and shut case for the judge, who awarded Burberry Inc. $100 million, along with any money in the defendants' PayPal accounts.

It's not the first time we've seen judges promise damages held by third-party accounts in these kinds of cases. It's been an important development as it's notoriously difficult to get money from these overseas based online operations.

Burberry has also been awarded a permanent injunction against the offending websites. Their domain names will also be transferred to Burberry, and search engines and prominent social networks will no longer promote the sites.

If all this is sounding like déjà vu it may be because the verdict is virtually identical to the one a Manhattan judge handed down for Hermes a few weeks ago. It's further evidence that counterfeiting won't be tolerated by the world's legal systems.

Burberry Prorsum Bamboo & Leather Clutch | Exotically Textured Buckled Day-To-Night Bag

Burberry's Prorsum line is the hip little sister of the Burberry flagship collection. Personally, I prefer its innovative use of design and materials to the more staid and tartaned traditional range. This bamboo and leather clutch shows off its sensibility with aplomb.

The materials really make the bag here. The subtly dyed grape colored bamboo looks amazingly supple and leather-like, but still retains a bohemian edge. The dark brown woven leather strap gives a smooth textural contrast to the look of the bag, but also complements the nubbly surface with its woven edges.

The classic clamshell design of the clutch is perfect. The buckled leather straps are, luckily, merely decorative, and the full open top allows for easy accessibility. I don't usually like oversized clutches, as they can be awkward to tote around, but the removable leather strap makes this one perfectly useable. With its top notch design and easy carryability, you really can't do better for an almost everyday bag.

Even the $1,695 price tag isn't unreasonable for the Prorsum line, although it is sadly out of reach for the masses.

Burberry Joins Billion Dollar Club | British Firm Posts Record Sales

Burberry has joined the ranks of Prada, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton by posting record sales of ₤1 billion over the last six months.

Industry experts say that in joining the billion dollar club, Burberry has completed one of the most impressive transformations in fashion. Once a niche heritage brand, it's now become a global fashion force. Sales increases of around 18 per cent in the last six months have helped elevate Burberry's status. Its enjoyed its biggest growth in its homeland, France, and China.

Burberry is certainly riding the way of this recent success. It will open a massive 25, 000 square foot flagship store in London's prestigious Regent Street this summer. It's also firmed up as a star favorite. Its London and Milan runway shows were wildly popular amongst celebrities, and hot young things Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevinge modeled its recent summer collection. Emma Watson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were also Burberry ambassadors.

Burberry's finance director Stacey Cartwright feels her label's thrived by taking the road less traveled.

"We are the only global luxury goods brand from Britain. We are unique," she explained, "and we are balanced across clothing and leather goods. Our other difference is our focus on digital. Shoppers can buy straight from the catwalk with iPads in stores and we now have more than 12 million Facebook fans."

It's impressive to see Burberry continuing its winning run in a world still smarting from the global recession. What do you think are the keys to its success?

Burberry Pasmore Two-Tone Shoulder Bag | Casual Brown Leather Handbag

Burberry tones down its usual aesthetic with this Pasmore shoulder bag. In fact if I hadn't spotted the discreet engraving on its buckles, I wouldn't know it was a Burberry bag at all!

Of course the nova check pattern we've come to associate with the British brand is gone, but it's more than that. The Pasmore also seems to lack the oomph of many other Burberry bags. Its two-toned design is a very gentle interpretation of the current colorblocking trend, and instead of the fashion conscious accents we're used to the finish is very clean. On one hand I appreciate the lack of clutter, but I also wonder where Burberry's personality has gone.

I can't fault its functionality though. The design is very practical, with its well-appointed and spacious main compartment and wide, adjustable shoulder strap. The checkered fabric which lines the interior even gives us a glimpse of the Burberry of old.

The Pasmore is made from high quality materials, and its subtlety should make it very versatile. However I feel Burberry's identity has been lost, and without it I'm not sure the Pasmore will inspire the passion we'll need to spend $1125.

Burberry's Nova Check might be iconic, but bags featuring this plaid print are starting to look a bit tired to me. So I'm thrilled to see the British designer trying something new with this Leather and Raffia Clutch.

If this is a sign of what Burberry can do when it thinks outside the square, it's a shame the label doesn't do it more often! The rich brown woven leather complements the multicolored raffia so beautifully. I've never seen the natural fiber looking this sophisticated. The finish reminds me of the kind of cloth we might see at a Marrakesh bazaar, but under Burberry's hand it's been turned into something more high class. It might just be the perfect combination of east meets west.

Clutches are notoriously impractical, but this one offers more than most. It's a bit larger than most purses of this ilk, so we can carry a few more items than usual. The extra space is well supported by open and zippered internal pockets. The only thing we're really missing is a shoulder strap. That's no small oversight either, because with it I'm sure this clutch would see more daytime wear.

You'll want to get as much use from it as you can, because at $1295 it's far from cheap. However it's just so stylish that it's tempting to ignore reason and just indulge!

Burberry abandons its usual Nova check for a much wilder herringbone print with this Ada clutch.

I didn't think I'd ever describe herringbone as wild either, but the treatment Burberry's used here is quite surreal. It reminds me of those optical illusions that make your eyes go all cross-eyed. The unusual print makes the classic black and white combination seem fun and fresh. It also distracts our eyes so much that we barely notice the bag isn't made from Burberry's favorite leather, but a much more casual raffia. The natural fiber is used well though. I love the way it's casually frayed around the curved flap, reminding us that this casual woven straw is the real deal.

I like the way the skinny black belt sets off the design, but I worried it might make the Ada difficult to use. Thankfully it's just an illusion that it wraps around the clutch's body. It's not really holding the flap down; a magnetic snap takes care of that. The Ada's dimensions are sizable but it's sophisticatedly slender. That makes it appear more dressed up than your average raffia clutch but it also compromises storage space. But since when do we buy a clutch for practicality?

Perhaps the answer to that question is, when it costs $750. That's the sort of price that makes us think we should have it all, at least when we're not getting luxury materials. I personally think it's too expensive for a raffia bag that doesn't even have functionality on its side, but its looks are so striking I can understand anyone who's still tempted!

Burberry’s Profits Up | British Fashion House Increases Sales by 30%

Burberry continues to defy the current financial climate after it posted a 30% sales increase for the first half of the year. Total revenue for the first and second quarters rose to 830 million pounds, or roughly $1.29 billion US dollars, up from 641 million pounds in 2010.

These results came as a surprise to fashion analysts, who predicted the company would enjoy sales of 818 million pounds in the period. However it outperformed those estimates thanks to strong retail sales. Demand for Burberry's luxury products increased in key markets, including New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Taipei.

The results are outstanding considering the troubled state of the Eurozone economies and concerns that China’s luxury goods market may be slowing down. Analysts say Burberry's latest posting prove that despite the world’s finances, luxury goods are as popular as ever. This isn't just good news for Burberry; it has positive implications for all prestige fashion labels. It seems that while times are tough, people are investing in high-end goods rather than wasting their limited resources on throwaway items.

Burberry hopes to capitalize on its current success by opening at least 10 stores in the second half of the financial year. We can expect to see new Burberry boutiques in Paris, China, and Latin America.

Burberry's designs this season have been really exciting. It's managed to combine its tailored aesthetic with some edgier styles, and the results are truly beautiful. This buckled hobo is the perfect example of what I mean.

The maroon leather on this bag is rich and lustrous. It's almost cordovan, which gives it the tiniest hint of retro flavor. The bag also comes in black, however, so if you want something thoroughly modern that might be the way to go. The glaze on the leather is really nice in either color. It's got sort of a semi-gloss on the body of the bag, and it's shiny on the straps, which is a subtle textural contrast.

You really can't do much better than the classic design of this tote. It's large and a little bit structured, but with plenty of slouch. The buckle and strap details are super cool and very rock 'n' roll. The dual straps give you several carrying options, which is nice, and for once the shoulder strap isn't unreasonably long.

This bag is unique in that it covers all the current trends without looking overly trendy, and it's large and versatile enough for a variety of uses.

Burberry is a line of impeccable taste. Its stalwart conservative days are over, though, and the line's designs are taking a much more fashion forward stance. This cracked leather wristlet is a great example of how it's been able to combine its classic good looks with a more modern sensibility.

This pewter cracked leather is absolutely stunning. I love the way the texture enhances the metallic treatment on the leather. It gives it an organic, almost lizard-y appearance that is exotic but not overdone.

The simple shape of the wristlet lets the material take center stage. The sleek minimalist design is great for evening. Its petite and the convenient wrist strap makes it really comfortable to carry. The exposed zipper is a great design touch, and its front placement makes it really visible. Honestly, I think a top zipper is somewhat more practical, but the front zipper adds a lot to the edgy aesthetic.

At $425, I think this clutch is slightly overpriced, but it's got such a cool look that it might be worth the high price tag if you happen to have a little extra spending money this month. Personally, I'll be waiting for a sale.

Burberry Bridle House Check Clutch | Brown Leather Striped Fabric Strap Purse

Burberry brings some luxury to its iconic check fabric with this Bridle House Check clutch.

You'll have to look hard to see that plaid cotton twill, as it's been obscured by diagonal strips of brown leather. These stitched strips move this way and that, creating an intricate geometric pattern along the clutch's surface. The effect is striking, and one which makes this fairly simply shaped clutch very appealing.

Simple works in the Bridle House Check Clutch's favor here. From a design standpoint it allows the clutch's leather details to shine, and from a practical one it maximizes storage. It's long but slim, like a stylish pencil case and able to fit just as much inside.

It's not large enough to become unwieldy but there's still a detachable strap when we'd prefer to go hands free. This is made from more leather rather than the traditional chain to complement the purse's elegant leather accents.

This is one of those rare clutches that would work just as well during the day or on an evening out. Its lack of feminine features is perfect for daylight hours, but its striking appearance could make a big impression when the sun goes down.

At $1095 it's very expensive for a clutch, but if you can manage to work it into your everyday wardrobe it might just be worth the splurge.
