This Monete Shoulder Bag is a delicious case in point.

It's strange that I'm so drawn to this shoulder bag because it's everything that I ordinarily hate. I tend to find nudes bland, but the gentle wrinkling and warm hue of this one have won me over. I tend to dismiss drawstring handbags as too fiddly, but this one puckers so elegantly that I barely mind. I'm also swooning over the Monete's silhouette, with its sturdy platform base and gentle structured curves. I'm not so enthused about the cameos on the chain strap, but they're subtle enough to overlook.

There's something so decadent about carrying a high end designer bag. We're treated to a main compartment with a host of practical perks and just enough space. The pockets are trimmed in leather, and there's also a handy holder for keys.

The price is enough to shake me from my daydreams though. At $2050 this Monete handbag is simply too rich for my blood. However if you can swing it I imagine its neutral color and sophisticated styling will serve you well.

If you've got your heart set on the minaudiere completing your favorite evening outfit prepare to shell out $4600.

Those are some big prices, but the combined might of Bulgari and its Serpentine line will entice many cashed up bagistas. These aren't mere everyday accessories after all; they're collector pieces designed to be handed down to your daughters. Are you tempted?

There's really nothing subtle about this little number, from the bronze satin base to all its decorations. And there are plenty of those: crystals, gold plated beads, and turquoise and coral paste pearls. As if that wasn't enough, Bulgari has added a gold plated blue enamel clasp. I'm really not sure we needed all of those decorations, but at least every one is of superior quality.

But high quality materials are the least I expect for the money Bulgari's charging. I never expect low, low prices from this Italian fashion house, but I still choked when I saw this purse's $6750 price tag. That's a whole chunk of change to spend on a purse that's likely to only enjoy after five outfits. You'll need a very full social calendar to justify picking this high-priced purse up.

Not to mention a lot of patience. There's no shoulder strap, so we're left clutching this pochette the old fashioned way. I wouldn't mind that on a cheaper purse, but when I'm spending several thousand I expect a bag to work for me, not the other way around. There's also just one fairly useless open pocket inside. Don't say you weren't warned.

I'm sure luxury addicts aren't fazed by this Bulgari bag's limitations, but personally I think I'll stick with Mary Frances if I want over-decorated clutches.

The Twist gets its name from the gently contorted accents on the front. They're almost like pleats, but something else. A twist in approach to be sure! Those details are what saves this bag from being boring, but they never go so far as to appear over the top. That makes the Twist the kind of purse you could literally take anywhere and never seem out of place.

The twists are what makes it special, but it's important not to overlook any of this Bulgari bag's other attributes. The black calf leather is of excellent quality, as we'd expect from the brand, supple and softly grained. The metal coin accents point to the label's heritage in an elegant, understated way. And that's all before we even get inside.

There you won't be disappointed either, with zip and slip compartments complementing the ones hidden away at the sides. This is a purse that can easily stay organized, which is a very good thing if you're planning on using it day and night.

As with most Bulgari bags though, the price is what makes me pause. The label has shown some real ingenuity here, but I'm not sure it's shown enough to command $2300.

Matthew Williamson gave us a sneak peek at his handbag line for Bulgari in August, and now he's unveiled it in a breath-taking launch party.

The event saw a Milanese garden transformed into a colorful jungle befitting the range's brightly hued bags.

"I wanted to create a particular kaleidoscope drawn from the rich Bulgari heritage in fine jewelry whilst also attaining a modern, contemporary feel," Williamson told his guests.

The Italian made collection combines Williamson's colorful and relaxed design aesthetic with Bulgari's signature conservative style. Bulgari says the collection's hexagonal motif is intended to echo "the dynamic heartbeat and architectural geometry of the modern metropolis."

The hexagonal shapes are mirrored in the oversized jewel closures and gemstone textured calfskin. The inner linings are just as wild as the exteriors, with kaleidoscopic emerald palm, sapphire galaxy, and crystal butterfly prints.

Prices start from $550 for the wallets and top $2200 for the hobo bags. You'll find these colorful designer creations at Bulgari stores around the world in January 2011.

Here's our first look at the handbag collection Matthew Williamson has designed for Bulgari.

The range will feature leather clutch purses and hobo bags embossed with a faceted gemstone design. Jewels also seem to have influenced the silhouettes, hardware, and tones of these handbags. I love the angular shapes, which resemble precious stones, and bright colors: "rubellite pink, emerald green, and sapphire blue." The handbags seem to strike the right balance between the ordinarily conservative Bulgari and Matthew Williamson's more flamboyant designs for Emilio Pucci.

The complete Matthew Williamson for Bulgari collection will make its debut during Milan Fashion Week this September, before it's rolled out in Bulgari boutiques around the world in January. There's no word yet on the prices that we can expect to pay, but if I know Bulgari these luxury leather goods aren't likely to come cheaply. If you're on a budget you may prefer to look to the more affordable coated canvas totes which will supplement the leather range.

It's an extreme reaction, but every now and again such a handbag comes along, and when you see it you fall hard.

The key to my infatuation is that luscious lamb leather. Its opulent wrinkled texture only emphasizes how ridiculously soft it is. It's the kind of skin I know I'd end up stroking, so it's a good thing the chestnut brown shade will hide my fingerprints. This buttery leather falls just so, pleating a little, and flaring gently to create the most intriguing silhouette.

The shape is unusual, but it doesn't compromise our storage space any. It's luxurious large, but Bulgari adds enough organizational features to help us cope with the room. The zippered compartment and pair of open pouches don't go above and beyond the call of duty, but it's enough to help us stay in order. And honestly, I'm so enamored with the exterior I wouldn't mind if Bulgari cut a few corners inside!

The only reason I'm not rushing out to buy this bag is the bottom line. I just don't have a spare $2000 lying around. But if I did, I know exactly where it'd go.

Isabella Rossellini has unveiled the handbag she designed in collaboration with Bulgari during Paris Fashion Week.

Celebrity collaborations rarely inspire us, but Isabella Rossellini is no ordinary celebrity. The always stylish actress has created a head-turning handbag which is available in pony skin, carved patent leather, and two more materials. Each has a different art deco styled clasp made from enamel and semi-precious stones. The designs are said to represent the different sides of Rossellini's personality.

"I wanted to combine simplicity, practicality, from my Swedish side, with the warmth and the elegance of Italy - and humor, that's my personal touch," said Rossellini, referring to the playful snail print on the inner lining. This playful touch is a nod to her recent ecological work. "We chose the snail, just because my bag is a little bit like my home."

The Isabella bags arrive in Bulgari stores later this month, with prices ranging between $1700 and $2600.

Revered Italian actress Isabella Rossellini is working with the Bulgari design team on a handbag bearing her name.

"My connection with Bulgari dates back to when I was a child and I'd accompany my mother [the legendary Ingrid Bergman] to the historic shop in Via Condotti in Rome," Rossellini explained. "She loved Bulgari jewels."

Her Rossellini handbag understandably takes its cues from the golden years of Italian fashion, with a design that has been described as "clean-cut and essential." It features hand-crafted enamel clasps encrusted with semiprecious stones and a snail print lining, a playful homage to Rossellini's recent ecological awareness films. The Rossellini bag will be available in four colors and materials representative of Rossellini's personality.

The Rossellini bag will be unveiled on July 7 during haute couture week at Bulgari's Rome flagship store. If you can't get to Italy you won't have to wait too long to feast your eyes on it, as it will hit Bulgari stores around the world at the end of July.

I drooled over the Chandra purse draped over Julianne Moore's naked arm in the latest Bulgari advertisement, and the good news is that there's many more where that came from. The company's CEO says he wants to double the brand's bag production over the next three to five years.

"We are not known for accessories; people think about many other brands than Bulgari for a bag," explained Francesco Trapani. "We want to change that."

Handbags, small leather goods, and silks currently account for around 7% of Bulgari's total sales. The company plans to lift that figure to around 15%. It's hoped that this step will make the brand more resistant to future economic downturns and improve profit margins.

While Bulgari will now focus on accessories, Trapani says the company has no plans to expand into shoe production. Following the recent announcement of a handbag collaboration with Matthew Williamson, it seems the label has plenty going on without adding shoes to the mix!
