Marc Jacobs hit gold with his Turnlock series of bags. The popular collection ranges from satchels to clutches and offers just about every color you can possibly think of for a purse. If you can imagine it, it's probably available in Turnlock. 

That's why it was no surprise to me to run across this sunshine yellow hobo from the Posh Turnlock line. It isn't a color I normally gravitate to, but it is intriguing and eyecatching. The lemon drop tone covers the entire bag from top to bottom and is only broken up by two pieces of hardware.

The gunmetal accents include the expected turnlock closure, which also displays the signature logo, and a decorative chain which hangs down the front of the Posh hobo. I find myself a bit bemused about the chain since it seems that it should function in some way. However, in reality, it serves no purpose but to add a little bling to the bag. Perhaps I would like it more if it were a tad shorter. Personally, I can see myself getting it caught on a doorknob or tangled on my arm, but that probably doesn't hold true for everyone. Less clumsy women might find it to be a nice addition to the handbag.

The patent leather has a nice crinkled texture that shines and picks up the brightness of the yellow. If the lemon color is too garish for you, this Marc by Marc Jacobs is also available in a deep indigo and a neutral mouse-colored brown. The turnlock on the top flap is the closure for the hobo, and opens to reveal a fun polka dot lining. The Posh Turnlock hobo retails for $428.

Botkier Bianca Satchel | Cherry Red Lambskin Medium Satchel

Botkier always has a slightly different take on handbags. Regular, almost predictable, styles are given some type of detail that makes them stand out. The designer has used buckles, fringe, and texture to make bags like the Morgan and Sasha unique.

The Bianca Satchel is another example of typical bag gone edgy. However, I'm not completely sold on it. The soft lambskin material is great, of course. The satchel silhouette is always one of my favorites. My hesitation is the different spin on this one.

In an effort to make it hip, no doubt, Botkier has given the Bianca a pair of rounded, slightly gathered and zippered front pockets that extend the width of the bag. Pardon my frankness, but I can't help but think of another pair of rounded something-or-others that grace the front of every woman. It almost looks like the Bianca is wearing an undergarment. That's not exactly what I want people to be thinking about when they check out a purse I'm carrying.
 
I am sure this isn't everyone's first impression of the handbag, though. Don't get me wrong; I love the idea of exterior pockets for easy access to lip gloss, cash, etc. Perhaps the cherry red version makes the detail stand out even more. In one of the darker colors available like black or brown, the pockets become much less noticeable and almost blend right in like hidden storage. Be sure to browse all of the color options before forming an opinion about the Bianca. You might find one to your liking.

On a positive note, the rich red is fabulous for this season, and the super soft lambskin is ideal for a comfortable bag. This Botkier also has several interior pockets, a zip top closure, and decorative flap with a turnlock detail. The Bianca might not be the ideal satchel, but it definitely isn't short on storage.

The Kiss Me has a long top zipper for packing ease, and a strap closure for security. The rhinestone flower accessory is the Kiss Me’s single sparkly detail, and it looks lovely against the anything-but-basic blue backdrop.

The Kiss Me also features two longer shoulder straps, perfect for slinging over your arm when you need to run to catch that last flight. Expect to stand behind a host of starlets pushing their Kiss Me Weekend Bags through security in the very near future.

The natural linen is accented with lush ostrich leather belt straps and trim. You can play is safe with the white and brown varieties, but I prefer the summery pop of this blue trimmed bag. You definitely don't need to wait for warm weather to appreciate this fresh Mediterranean look! A long tasseled drawstring adds a dash of flirty fun, while helping to secure the front pocket.

That front pocket is just the start of the Diana's storage options. The bag may be slim lined, but Rafe have still found the room to include a zip pocket on either side. Goldenbleu Parker Weekender | Classic Black Patent Leather Tote

The Goldenbleu Parker was released in 2007 but still remains an stylish choice if you're looking for a roomy, multi-functional yet elegant handbag. The Parker comes in a smaller tote version as well as the larger Weekender bag. The style is simple and traditional, but the result is tres chic.

I love the look of patent leather. It can take an ordinary purse and give it extra pizazz. The black patent sheen on this Parker Weekender is perfect. It isn't overly glossy but has a little shine to keep it from looking too casual. You can also opt for the white patent leather if you prefer a lighter color.

Even if you're not planning a weekend away, the Parker is a great choice for a practical bag. This Goldenbleu would be stylish for the office as well as overnight trips. The look is professional and put together, which is essential for work-wear. In my opinion, it would probably have more use in that respect anyway. Unless you're particularly clever at packing, the Weekender might not be quite enough room for everything you need for a getaway. However, you could get a lot of use out of it as a carry-on when traveling by airplane.

Whatever your lifestyle, the Goldenbleu Parker is a lovely way to accessorize almost any outfit. The multiple pockets inside the handbag are handy for organization, and the extended zipper closure that reaches from the bottom of one side to the other allows for easy access. The Weekender retails for $895, but look for a bargain with this gem of last fall.

3.1 Phillip Lim Suede Camera Bag | Soft Emerald Green Shoulder Bag

It isn't often that you find a designer suede handbag, unless it's one of those fly-by-night, 80's inspired boho hobos, of course. Whether the shortage of suede accessories is due to current trends, or suede's reputation for indurability, I'm not sure. Either way, I'm glad the tide is turning, because not only does that reputation really only apply to shoes (who splashes their handbag around in puddles?), but I love the soft and aromatic appeal of suede.

This camera bag by Phillip Lim is particularly nice, because it combines the malleability of suede with a highly structured shape, not to mention a fabulously muted jewel tone green. The three outer pockets make it exceptionally utilitarian. I would put my PDA on one side, my keys on the other, and my wallet in the larger front pocket that is protected by the top flap closure.

As with many of Phillip Lim's designs, the best part of the Camera Bag is the small details. I love the layered oversitch detail, the flap and strap front closure, and the tiny black leather tassels hanging from the handles. At 12" x 10" x 6", the bag really is big enough to hold your camera, or even your videocamera, but I doubt you would be able to resist using it as your everyday bag.

While at $685, the Phillip Lim Camera Bag isn't exactly cheap, it is a bag that will transcend seasons and fads, and only get better with age. This is definitely one bag that will be lovelier once it is broken in. A few scratches here and there, and the shiny patches that come when suede wears down; they will only increase the bag's appeal. And who doesn't love an investment that ages well?

Joe’s Jeans Sevilla Bowler | Small Structured Leather Handbag

Never underestimate the power of a little decorative stitching or pleating. They can take a bag from simple to fabulous in no time at all. Joe's Jeans has these techniques down pat. With some intricate details, this designer's solid-colored leather purses become interesting and unique. They sometimes have a classic look, but look closely and you'll find a modern feel.

For this reason, I love the Sevilla Bowler handbag. The structured silhouette of the old-school bowling bag is timeless and has been done many times. However, some interesting stitching and other details kick it into high gear.

The most noticeable detail is the contrast between the soft white and tan. The bone-colored leather that mainly comprises the bag is complemented by the light brown shade on the trim.  This is more eye-catching than with the black and tan color combination also available for the Sevilla. This cream tone is an excellent choice if you're looking for a winter white tote, but I can imagine carrying this bag year round.

Straight lines and structure reign with the Sevilla. Leather straps run vertically down the bottom part of the bag and across the underside. The decorative squares on each end of the straps and on the handle anchors add to the contemporary feel of this Joe's Jeans bag. They also accentuate the rectangle created by stitching. An "x" marks the middle of the front of the tote, also created by decorative stitching.

Like most Joe's Jeans handbags, the Sevilla Bowler is reasonably priced. The small version, pictured here, retails for $295. If you prefer the oversized look, it also comes in a larger version priced at $375.

Salvatore Ferragamo Creates Eco Friendly Handbag Collection

Salvatore Ferragamo has gone green, creating a luxury line of environmentally friendly handbags.

The Eco Ferragamo collection features purses made with a nontoxic tanning technique and dyed using tannins extracted from tree bark. They're then lined with handwoven hemp to withstand everyday use.

The results are bags that are biodegradable, water-resistant, and utterly stylish. There's something for everybody, with Eco Ferragamo purses ranging from small totes to maxi hobos. You'll find them in this lush tobacco brown, lemon yellow, and grapefruit pink.

The Eco Ferragamo handbags will cost from $1, 190 to $1,890. You've got a little time to save your pennies, with the collection due to hit stores in February.

Green in the new black, so it's wonderful to see high-end designers doing their bit to save the planet. Can we look forward to some eco-friendly Salvatore Ferragamo shoes and apparel soon? Hopefully this is the start of something big from the Italian fashion house!
